Ravens rookie guard Nico Siragusa tore multiple ligaments in his knee (ACL, MCL and PCL) during Tuesday's practice, the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Rapoport reports that an MRI confirmed the tears, which would end Siragusa's season before it began. Siragusa seemed to confirm the injury on Twitter.
The fourth-round pick was carted off the field after getting tangled up during a goal-line drill. The running back was stopped short of the goal line and went down to the turf.
Ravens coaches constantly stress to players to stay on their feet to try to avoid such injuries.
It's yet another disappointing injury for the Ravens, who have been snake-bitten so far this year. Siragusa would be the fifth season-ending injury suffered and the Ravens aren't even a week into training camp yet.
Tight end Dennis Pitta (hip) and cornerback Tavon Young (knee) went down in organized team activities. Running back Kenneth Dixon (knee) was lost for the season just days before camp opened and tight end Crockett Gillmore (knee) suffered a season-ending injury during Friday's practice.
Quarterback Joe Flacco is currently sitting out because of back pain and cornerback Maurice Canady is out indefinitely because of a knee injury, but could return this season.
The Ravens also lost tight end Darren Waller to a season-long suspension and center/guard John Urschel to retirement. Last year's starting linebacker Zachary Orr retired, then unretired, after last season ended.
On Tuesday, Head Coach John Harbaugh was asked if he laments the team's string of injuries. He answered before knowing Siragusa's status, but won't waver.
"We have a lot of good players," Harbaugh said. "We're going to play football games. We're the Ravens and we're going to be a really good team. That's how we do it.
"Guys are going to get nicked up, guys are going to come back, not come back, guys are going to come next year – it's the National Football League, I mean, look around the league. No. You don't lament that stuff, you just forge ahead. I'm very confident in our guys and the team we're going to have. I'm not worried about that one bit."
Siragusa stood out during the early part of training camp for his sheer power. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound blocker out of San Diego State was likely going to be one of the team's top interior offensive line backups with Marshal Yanda and Alex Lewis slated to be the starting guards.
