The Ravens made a critical move to bolster their offensive line last week by re-signing left tackle .
The move brings back the big left tackle who started all four playoff games during the Ravens' Super Bowl run, and also brings some clarity to questions about what the offensive line will look like this season.
"Having Bryant back is a big plus for us," Head Coach John Harbaugh said Sunday. "We were hoping that would be the case."
McKinnie is the favorite to start at left tackle, which would put Michael Oher at right tackle. Kelechi Osemele would likely start at left guard, with Marshal Yanda at right guard and Gino Gradkowski at center.
Before naming McKinnie the starter, however, the Ravens want to see him get back to work in Baltimore. The team is currently in its voluntary offseason conditioning program, and Harbaugh expects McKinnie to start participating this week.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him next week and getting him in here and going to work," Harbaugh said. "We want our line to be as strong as it can possibly be and that makes us stronger."
The details of two-year contract reportedly worth $7 million are unclear, but the deal could include workout bonuses. McKinnie has struggled with his weight and conditioning in the past, and reported to training camp late last season.
Before deciding to bring back McKinnie, Harbaugh talked with him during the offseason, and indicated that those conversations were positive.
"I'm always pleased with conversations with Bryant McKinnie," Harbaugh said. "I enjoy talking to Bryant. He's one of my favorite guys. He's a sterling conversationalist. We talk a lot about stuff – a lot of different things, broad range of topics. I always enjoy that. I think he does as well."
