Cornerback Moe Lee Standing Out Among Undrafted Rookies

With nine draft picks on the roster and a flood of other young talent, it's going to be more difficult than usual for an undrafted rookie free agent to make Baltimore's team this summer.

That doesn't mean some aren't standing out, however.

Asked for who has surprised him thus far in minicamp, Secondary Coach Teryl Austin first pointed to undrafted rookie cornerback Moe Lee.

"He just kind of seems to be around the ball quite a bit, No. 34," Austin said. "Now, when that gets into games and real-life situations, we will see how that plays out. But, he's a young guy who's really kind of caught my eye."

Lee had a nice pass breakup on fellow rookie and seventh-round pick Aaron Mellette Wednesday. Lee broke on the ball well on an out route, reaching around the wide receiver for the deflection.

Lee is a big-bodied cornerback (6-foot-1, 191 pounds) out of Utah who was originally recruited as a wide receiver, the position he played for two years at Palomar Community College.

He converted to cornerback and made 29 tackles, six pass deflections and three interceptions as a junior at Utah. He followed that up with 35 tackles, one interception, seven deflected passes and a 47-yard fumble return for a touchdown during his senior year.

Lee said his time as a wide receiver helps him on the field.

"I kind of have a third eye for knowing the offensive plays," he said. "I see the patterns and I can anticipate which routes are going to be run on certain downs."

Lee said he's working to better know the Ravens defense, which will allow him more time to try to diagnose the opposing offense. He said that in college he would be able to predict what route was coming about one-third of the time.

Lee, seventh-round rookie Marc Anthony, second-year player Asa Jackson (a fifth-round pick), veteran Chris Johnson and Chykie Brown are all jockeying for the fourth and fifth cornerback spots on the roster.
