The Ravens first wave of cuts have come ahead of Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline to get to 53 players.
Baltimore released the following players:
- ILB Andrew Bose
- WR Daniel Brown
- T Blaine Clausell
- WR Tom Nelson
- CB Quinton Pointer
The moves bring the roster down to 70, with another 17 cuts to go.
Brown is perhaps the biggest name on the list because he's had a couple good preseason performances, including a punt block and touchdown catch Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons. He also had a tough leaping touchdown catch in Philadelphia.
Head Coach John Harbaugh suggested Thursday that the 6-foot-5 undrafted rookie free agent out of James Madison could be a potential practice squad player.
With the release of Nelson, a converted safety and former Cincinnati Bengal, the Ravens are now down to seven wide receivers.
Pointer is another player that stood out at times this summer. Pointer excelled during Organized Team Activities and was in the mix for one of the final cornerback spots with Asa Jackson and Cassius Vaughn.
