Team President Dick Cass called it the "most unlikely group of people to go to Vegas ever."
Quarterback Joe Flacco, tight end Dennis Pitta and former Ravens tight end Todd Heap went to Las Vegas last week* *for a potential contract celebration that turned into a post-Super Bowl bash.
"I was hoping that the deal would get done by that point, so we could maybe celebrate," Flacco joked Monday after inking his reported history-making $120.6 million deal.
"That's a pretty good place to celebrate – pretty easy place to blow a lot of money."
A trip to Vegas isn't really Flacco's style.
"That's about all the celebration that I can take," he said with a laugh. "I'm not going to do anything crazy."
Flacco was more in his element Friday night when news broke that he and the Ravens had agreed to a deal. The quarterback was at family pizza night at his uncle's house watching T.V. and chuckling about the whole thing.
The mild-mannered Flacco said winning the Super Bowl, being named MVP and now getting a record-setting contract is still a bit unbelievable.
"'Man, can you really believe where we are?'" Flacco recounted. "We've done that so many times over the past month. Just looked at each other – my dad, my wife – and just shook our heads and laughed. Super Bowl champs. It doesn't get any better than that."
Here's a taste of what Flacco is dealing with right now.
He's deciding what color he wants for his 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the spoils of his Super Bowl MVP. He doesn't fit in it so well, so he plans on giving the sports car to his wife even though running back Ray Rice wants to buy it off him.
His teammates, including fullback Vonta Leach, are texting him wondering how big next year's Christmas gift is going to be. Rice said dinner is on Flacco next time they go out.
Flacco's not too interested in doing endorsement deals. He did an ad with Baltimore-based Haribo Gold Bears (gummy bears) during Super Bowl week because all he had to do was have a picture taken of him holding them.
"When you get a $120 million contract, you don't really need to be searching for too much money," Flacco said with a laugh. "If people are going to get me off my couch – it already takes a lot. It's going to take a little bit extra now."
So what is Flacco going to do with all that money?
"I'm just going to look at it," he said, "and be able to smile a little bit."
UPDATE: After leaving the Under Armour Performance Center Monday afternoon, Flacco stopped by McDonalds for a 10-piece McNugget meal.
