Instant Reaction to Ravens' Pick of Patrick Queen

Instant-Reaction-Patrick-Queen

Eisenberg: There's a whole lot for the Ravens to be happy about after they selected inside linebacker Patrick Queen with their first-round pick Thursday night. Queen pencils in as an instant starter who fills their biggest position of need, and GM Eric DeCosta got him without having to make a trade and give up picks. And Queen plays linebacker like it needs to be played in 2020, utilizing speed, quickness and energy more than brute force. A young player rated in the top 15 prospects in this class by the NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, Queen provides excellent value as the No. 28-overall pick.

Brown: I love this pick for the Ravens. They needed an inside linebacker and they need more speed defensively. Queen checks both of those boxes, and he played well in LSU's biggest games on the way to winning a national title. There was no guarantee Queen would fall to them, but the Ravens waited patiently and got a player who should make an immediate impact. Calais Campbell, Derek Wolfe, and now Queen? The Ravens have added some serious pieces to their defense since March.

Downing: The trend of never having drafted an LSU player comes to an end. The Ravens get a plug-and-play starter in the middle of the defense in Queen. He's a sideline-to-sideline defender and somebody who can make a difference in the middle of Baltimore's defense. This was a perfect scenario for Baltimore. They sit tight at pick No. 28 and allow one of the best defenders in the draft to come to them. Queen is an ascending player who was selected as the defensive MVP in the National Championship game, and the Ravens are certainly fired up to get a talented young defender late in the first round.

Mink: Kenneth Murray and Patrick Queen both screamed "Raven" and you have to be thrilled to get either one. Queen may end up being the better player. We'll see. Daniel Jeremiah, a former Ravens scout, had Queen at No. 15 on his big board and Murray at No. 17. Queen is fast, instinctive, explosive, physical and a leader. He's got swagger. The Ravens fill a huge need with a true playmaker that can do a lot in their defense.
