Lamar Jackson's Frustrating 'Best Play' Spurred His Weight Loss

Lamar Jackson took home the ESPY award for "Best Play" this offseason for his pass to himself in the AFC Championship game.

But that play still eats at Jackson and was a factor in his offseason weight loss.

Jackson nearly broke away for what would have been a game-changing 82-yard touchdown but was tripped up from behind by Chiefs linebacker Dru Tranquil.

"That made me mad. That was supposed to be a touchdown," Jackson said on "The Lounge" podcast.

"The crazy thing about it was I was like, 'If I catch my own pass with a lane, that's a touchdown.' And then it happened. I probably was a little shocked. It was like a movie. And then I got tripped up, I'm like, 'c'mon, man.'"

Jackson said that play "definitely" contributed to his decision to drop weight. Jackson was reportedly down to 200 pounds this offseason, 15 pounds less than last year and 30 pounds below his 2022 weight.

Jackson looked faster on the practice field this summer, and said he's focused more on healthy eating this offseason and lifting throughout training camp.

"[My speed] is definitely back where I was when I first entered the league and my first couple years," he said.
