News & Notes: Lamar Jackson Is Frustrated By Ravens' Fourth-Quarter Lapses

Ravens fans know by now that Marlon Humphrey has a tradition of having fun hosting an Instagram live from Baltimore's team plane after road wins.

Well, Lamar Jackson wasn't feeling it on the flight back from the Ravens' 28-25 win in Dallas. Not after nearly losing a 22-point lead.

The way the Ravens finished continued their trend of fourth-quarter struggles. Since the start of last season, the Ravens have been outscored, 157-134, in the fourth quarter. In the three other quarters combined, they've outscored their opponents, 414-198.

It bit Baltimore in Week 2 when the Las Vegas Raiders rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to win, and the Ravens flirted with danger again in Dallas.

"I just didn't want the camera on me at the time," Jackson said. "He knows this. I'm all about winning. I don't want to say winning style, but when we're up, I just want to punish people. I want to get out of there clear-minded.

"That's my brother. I know he's going to do what he's going to do, but, man, not right now. I'm a little ticked off how the game went."

Baltimore's offense only had three possessions in the fourth quarter. The first finished with a missed field goal. Then came a muffed onside kick. Then was a three-and-out after a third-and-3 pass fell between tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.

Jackson finished the game with a clutch completion to Zay Flowers on third-and-6, then a 10-yard run up the middle. But it was too close for comfort for the quarterback.

Safety Kyle Hamilton was asked if it's tough to fight the mental side of losing a lead in the fourth quarter.

"Yes and no," he said. "Obviously, we've been through it more times than we have wanted to, but every game is mutually exclusive to each other.

"There have been numerous games where we won 40-3, and this isn't talked about, because it was like, 'Oh, this was supposed to happen.' Like last year, the Seahawks and the Lions, we did our job, and it only gets talked about when we don't. So, I think it's something that does happen in the league. We're just trying to minimize it."

Lamar Likes Tom Brady's 'The Eraser' Nickname

Jackson has gotten many nicknames over the years, from "Action Jackson" to "Lamarvelous." But when the GOAT, Tom Brady, gives you one, that's special.

Jackson said he liked Brady’s new nickname of “The Eraser,” which the seven-time Super Bowl winner gave him from Sunday's broadcast booth when he watched Jackson befuddled the Cowboys defense.

"He's like superhuman," Brady said. "I call him 'The Eraser.' He just erases things that come up when you see bad football. That [broken play] would be a negative play for almost every other quarterback, and he turns it into another rushing first down. It's awesome."

Jackson was flattered, once again calling Brady the GOAT.

"For him to give me a nickname, 'The Eraser,' and how he judges my game, it's just dope," Jackson said. "It's dope for me to hear."

Kyle Van Noy Has a Permanent Chip on His Shoulder

It was at this time that Kyle Van Noy signed with the Ravens last year, heading into Week 4. He responded in a big way, notching a career-high nine sacks last season.

A year later, Van Noy is still red hot, as he's notched a pair of sacks in back-to-back games. Only two players, the Lions' Aidan Hutchinson and Jets' Will McDonald IV, have more sacks than the 33-year-old Van Noy.

Asked what's working so well for him, Van Noy harkened back to a year ago.

"Honestly, I'm going to go back to what I always say: I take it very personal that I wasn't on a football team last year. I'm always trying to prove that I can play – each and every year – at a high level," Van Noy said.

He also gave credit to Head Coach John Harbaugh and Defensive Coordinator Zach Orr for empowering him as a leader and pass rusher.

"I just appreciate everything they've done [for] me since I've been here, and just continue to, [to] help the team win," Van Noy said. "But I just have this chip on my shoulder that's probably never going to go away."

Van Noy's 13 sacks with Baltimore ties Trevor Pryce for the most through a player's first 17 games as a Raven. He's been a fantastic signing, and it's why the Ravens re-upped with a two-year deal this offseason.

Asked if Van Noy has ever been on a heater like he is now with four sacks in two games, he smiled and responded, "I always feel like I'm on a heater."
