Progress Updates On Injured Ravens

The Ravens went into the offseason without any major injury concerns, outside of a few surgeries to repair some issues that plagued players during the season.

The biggest offseason procedure was for running back Bernard Pierce, who underwent rotator cuff surgery that is expected to take the next several months to rehab.

"Bernard is probably going to be [out] until training camp," Head Coach John Harbaugh said Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "He's got a shoulder surgery along the lines of Marshal Yanda, but we expect him to start training camp on the first day, but it's a long way from now."

Yanda had shoulder surgery last offseason, which sidelined him until mid-August, but he was healthy for the season and played every game.

In addition to Pierce, the other big injury question is left guard Kelechi Osemele. He landed on injured reserve seven games into the season because of a herniated disk in his back. He had surgery to fix the issue, and is rehabbing at the Under Armour Performance Center.

"We expect him to start the offseason program," Harbaugh said. "He's in there working out. K.O. is way far along in his training. He's doing great. He's in there every day."

The only other injury concern was a minor knee scope surgery that center Gino Gradkowski had after the season. The scope was a success for Gradkowski, and he has also been working out at the team facility, according to Harbaugh.

Wide receiver Aaron Mellette has also been rehabbing a knee injury that forced him to have surgery early during the season and landed him on injured reserve, but Harbaugh did not provide an update on his status. Mellette tweeted earlier this month that he was cleared to run again.

The Ravens' voluntary offseason conditioning program begins in April.
