What the Bills Said Ahead of Ravens Divisional Playoff Matchup

Bills QB Josh Allen
Bills QB Josh Allen

Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott

On playing the Ravens, who beat them 35-10 in Week 4:

"They're a great football team. They handled us pretty good the first go-around and they're certainly playing well, well-coached. [Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh] won a Super Bowl and comes from great pedigree, so it'll be a big challenge for us."

On facing Derrick Henry:

"If we had about five 300-pound linebackers, I think we'd be in pretty good shape. I don't know who has that size of linebacker in the NFL. He's been doing this for years, and he's really good at it. So, I don't know if anybody's ever stopped him. … Lamar and him make a heck of a one-two combination."

Bills QB Josh Allen

On losing to the Ravens in Week 4:

"I feel like we've grown quite a bit since that game. Obviously, we learned a lot from those moments. Going back and watching it, obviously it wasn't our best effort. I felt like we didn't play our best football. They have a really good team, too. They're playing this week for a reason, their defense the last eight to 10 weeks has been superb. Their offense is fantastic as well, they have a lot of studs over there, Lamar [Jackson], obviously. It's a tough team to play, regardless."

On if he relishes opportunities to play against quarterbacks like Jackson:

"Absolutely. I think that's why you play this game, is to be in moments like these. We're extremely happy and blessed to be playing and continue playing this game."

On why Henry is so difficult to tackle:

"I've been around him. He's a great, great human being. I love being around him. He's a positive, bright human being. He's awesome. But then you look at him and he's absolutely massive. He's a physical specimen. He's as fast as anybody on the field. Once he gets going downhill, he's tough to bring down, just because of the sheer size and speed."

On how he balanced what happened in Week 4 to what these teams look like now:

"I think they had a game plan against us that was pretty good. Making sure that we're covering those bases and figuring out what to adjust and how to fix some of those things. At the same time, [look at] what they had success on the last few weeks. Not sure what they're going to do. I guess we'll find out Sunday. But we'll prepare for anything and everything that we can and just try to go out there and execute."

On safety Kyle Hamilton:

"He's a heck of a player. He's flying around all over the field. He's a ball magnet. They've got some absolute studs on the defensive side of the ball, too. Got to be aware of where he's at, along with a few other guys."

Bills LB Von Miller

On facing the Ravens:

"It's the battle of two heavyweights. This is why the NFL is the greatest league in the world, because you get matchups like this, and you get quarterbacks like this going against each other."

On playing Jackson:

"He's an elite player. Huge, huge fan of Lamar for a bunch of these years now. We got the battle of the MVPs this weekend and it'll be good. They got a really good team, got a lot of respect for their coaching staff as well in their front office over there. Obviously, you got Derek Henry, Lamar Jackson, two elite players. ... We got a pretty good team as well with a lot of great talent over here as well. And that's why you play the game. That's what makes football great."

On the Bills' improvements versus the run:

"[We've been] playing better run defense. Getting healthier on defense. It just feeds into the confidence that you have. When you have success on the field, it feeds into the overall confidence of the team. Offense is doing everything, special teams doing everything and we're starting to strike hot lately. So, like I said, it's the battle of two heavyweights and this is what you want. This is why the NFL is the greatest league in the world because you get matchups like this and you get quarterbacks like this going against each other."

On if the Bills feel pressure to get past the divisional round:

"The past is the past. We have a huge opportunity in front of us to go out there and achieve all our dreams. We get one game to go do it. How can you not get up for moments like this for games like this? Bills Mafia is going to be there rocking. It's going to be late. It's going to be cold. It's everything that we want. We're healthy. They're healthy. And this is what it's all about."

Bills LB Terrel Benard

On the Ravens run game:

"22 [Henry] is big, runs hard, he's super-fast and then you got Lamar, who's a great athlete as well, makes a lot of guys miss, can run away from guys. So, I think that goes back to just the fundamentals of what we want to do. Things we've worked on since training camp. That's the main emphasis, is getting back to doing what we do and sticking to our fundamentals and going out there and playing our best ball."

Head Coach John Harbaugh

On what impresses him about Bills quarterback Josh Allen:

"He's an ultimate-type competitor. Obviously, he's a fiery personality. We saw that his rookie year. I remember he came over in the sideline, and him and [Terrell] Suggs or something. I don't know what happened. He was hit on the sideline or something, and he came up swinging. I respected that. I did tell him, I said, 'Woah, woah. Calm down.' I saw him at The Masters like that next year – that spring – and had a chance to hang out with him. He was there with Sam Darnold, and [we] had a few laughs about that whole deal, but [I have a] lot of respect for him. [He's a] competitive guy."

QB Lamar Jackson

On the excitement of playing the Bills:

"[It's] the same as last week. I feel like our guys are just locked in. The playoff atmosphere is pretty much serious around the building. We've been joking, but not that much. Guys are just locked in, because a lot of us was here last year, and we know what's at stake for us."

On if he feels that this game is one everyone wants to see:

"Excuse me for everybody watching, but I really don't care who's watching. To me, to us players, we're really just trying to win. We really don't care how people feel about it – we're trying to go in there and just win. That's a tough environment, a tough team – offense, defense and special teams. We're just trying to go there and win."

On if he has a relationship with Allen:

"I don't know. I have probably seen Josh [Allen] early on in our career going to certain events around the Super Bowl time and stuff like that, but in the offseason, I don't really chill with people [in] the offseason, especially not other quarterbacks. Don't get me wrong, there's no problem or nothing like that, but we're competing with each other. I'm trying to beat you; I'm not trying to be your friend."

On if the last playoff loss to the Bills matters to him:

"Hell yes. Hell yes. I just saw it. I just saw a little clip they always like to post they like to throw that out there that little interception return. Yes, that's all I'm going to say about that though."

Jackson, Humphrey, Andrews & Harbaugh: Ravens Press Conferences 1/15/25

QB Lamar Jackson, CB Marlon Humphrey, TE Mark Andrews, and Head Coach John Harbaugh speak with the media.

RB Derrick Henry

On his mindset going into the game:

"We want to win. It's a divisional [playoff] game. We're trying to get to the next round – the AFC Championship. It's a great opponent and a really good team, and yes, it's going to be a heavyweight fight."

On if he enjoys running in the cold weather:

"I don't care if it's cold, hot, raining or snow, I just have to do my job."

ILB Roquan Smith

On the mentality of the team right now:

"We have to be at our best, but that's everyone in the playoffs, so we're expecting their best, but we're focused on ourselves and knowing that we have to be at our best. And all that takes is us just doing our jobs – doing our job [and] imposing our will one play at a time and coming out not taking anything for granted and letting it fly every single play. Like I always say, go out on your shield. And every single person is willing to do that and is going to do that."

On the weather:

"Nobody cares about any of that stuff. It's about playing ball. It can be on a cement track. It can be wherever. I don't care if it's negative [degrees], but we [are] going [to] be ready, and trust me, cold will not be a factor at all, believe that."

TE Mark Andrews

On his mental process knowing the game conditions will be rough:

"It's war time. It's time to go to war. It's accepting anything and everything."

S Kyle Hamilton

On the evolution of Allen:

"He is one of the best in the league for a reason. He is up for the MVP with Lamar for a reason. It is because he affects the game in a very different way than a lot of different quarterbacks. He is one-of-one in that sense [with his] arm talent, mobility, and he is big. He manages that offense really well, and guys play really well around him."

CB Marlon Humphrey

On what he has learned playing Allen:

"He is definitely a competitor. Me and some of the guys were talking ... about quarterbacks we hate playing the most, based off who would be closest to Lamar [Jackson and] how he's able to keep a play going. The play is really never over, and then, when he runs, he is a big dude. He can juke you, but he can run you over and keep running very easily, so [he's] just a super tough quarterback to go against. That's the biggest thing, but if I had to put it on one thing, the play is just never over."
