The Ravens cut vested veteran wide receiver Brandon Stokley Saturday afternoon on the eve of their Week 5 game in Miami.
Baltimore re-signed tight end Billy Bajema to the 53-man roster after releasing him earlier in the week to make room for tackle Eugene Monroe.
The move to release Stokley is due to the Ravens' wideout corps getting healthy and crowded.
Second-year wide receiver Deonte Thompson emerged in his first game of the season, making four catches for 50 yards in Buffalo. He has more speed and explosiveness than the veteran Stokley, and also works the slot.
The Ravens also like what they've seen from rookie free agent Marlon Brown, who has three touchdowns. They likely wouldn't want to take him off the field with the return of Jacoby Jones approaching.
Jones (knee) could possibly return Sunday against the Dolphins. He's questionable. Thompson (concussion) and Brown (thigh) are also questionable. Stokley (thigh) was questionable as well, and didn't play last week in Buffalo.
Stokley had nine receptions for 79 yards in his first three games. He was showing his prowess for moving the chains on third down, but that job will now likely fall to Thompson and Brown.
Bajema adds more depth at tight end, a position of need this year for the Ravens. The blocking veteran has one catch for 18 yards and joins Ed Dickson and Dallas Clark.
