OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) -The Baltimore Ravens placed defensive lineman Dwan Edwards and two others on injured reserve and cut two players to reach the roster limit of 75 on Tuesday.
Edwards has been hampered by a back injury and sat out in the Ravens' 24-10 loss to the St. Louis Rams over the weekend. The former Oregon State standout started a career-high 13 games last season and recorded 58 tackles in place of injured starter Trevor Pryce.
Dan Cody, the often-injured outside linebacker-defensive end, is likely to replace Edwards.
The Ravens placed linebacker Terrence Melton (hand) and nose guard Kelly Talavou (shoulder) on injured reserve, cutting journeymen wide receiver Darnerien McCants and tight end Aaron Walker.
McCants was a fifth-year pro who played for the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Meanwhile, quarterbacks Troy Smith (viral illness) and Kyle Boller (right shoulder) didn't practice. That increases the chances that rookie Joe Flacco may start and play most of the game Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons.
Troy is getting better,'' coach John Harbaugh said.
He's just so drained, dehydrated.''
The team has no immediate plans to sign a quarterback before this game.
We're not going to bring anybody in for this game,'' Harbaugh said.
We've got to see where Troy and Kyle are. We've got to have three quarterbacks, obviously.''
NFL teams have until Saturday to trim their rosters to the 53-player league limit.
