The Ravens didn't draft an* *offensive tackle or cornerback.
But don't go jump into the Chesapeake Bay, fans. They're not done making moves yet.
Baltimore will still add players through undrafted free agency and there are still some alluring veterans on the open market. More will become available when cuts are made this summer.
"As you all well know, we're not done as far as building this football team," General Manager Ozzie Newsome said after the draft concluded.
Getting a right tackle was seen as one of the biggest needs in this year's draft, including by Owner Steve Bisciotti.
The Ravens nearly had a chance to take a right tackle in the first round, but the Dallas Cowboys selected Notre Dame's Zack Martin one pick ahead of them. In the second round, Baltimore passed on Virginia's Morgan Moses and Ohio State's Jack Mewhort to instead select Florida State defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan, who is regarded as a first-round talent.
Newsome said that after the top four tackles were drafted all ahead of them, their board wasn't very well stacked to get another tackle.
"We were not going to just reach down and just take a player at the tackle position," he said.
Newsome pointed to the Ravens' in-house options at right tackle with Ricky Wagner (a fifth-round pick last year) and the potential of moving Kelechi Osemele over from left guard to tackle, where he played his rookie season.
"We'll just shake things up and see how the best thing happens," Newsome said. "[But] if the opportunity presents itself for us to acquire a player to play tackle if we need to, we'll be able to do it."
Newsome seemed to point towards the possibility of signing a veteran. One player pundits point to is Eric Winston, who is still a free agent. He played six seasons under new Ravens Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak in Houston. Winston is just 30 years old and hasn't missed a start since 2007. He bounced between the Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals the past two years, however.
When it comes to cornerback, Newsome pointed towards bringing in an undrafted free agent as a possible solution. Corey Graham departed for Buffalo in free agency, leaving a void at the No. 3 spot.
Chykie Brown and Asa Jackson are currently the leaders for the job. Third-round pick, safety Terrence Brooks, could possibly be called on considering he was a cornerback for his first two years at Florida State and has the speed for the job.
Newsome said the first round was the only round where there was conversation about taking a cornerback.
"We would have liked to have had a corner in the conversation, but that was not rated highly enough," Newsome said. "I think all of the young men that we'll be recruiting will look at that and say, 'Hey, they didn't draft a corner.' So, they see an opportunity. Hopefully we'll be able to get the top of the list of guys that are out there available, because they can look here and see an opportunity to come in and hopefully make our squad."
