The Ravens have placed second-year outside linebacker Adrian Hamilton on injured reserve with a wrist injury.
Baltimore acquired Hamilton last year after he was released by the Dallas Cowboys at the end of training camp. He spent most of the year on the Ravens' practice squad before being activated for the final two regular-season games and postseason. He logged one tackle.
Hamilton, 25, is a talented pass rusher who led the nation in sacks (22) at Prairie View A&M in 2011. He was named the Football Championship Subdivision Defensive Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder was playing well this preseason. He notched a sack in Tampa Bay, then had four tackles against Atlanta.
But he was buried on the depth chart due to Baltimore's surge of talent at outside linebacker with Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, Courtney Upshaw, John Simon and Pernell McPhee.
Hamilton showed progress as a run stopper this preseason, and will now have a chance to sit out a year and try to make the 53-man roster next season.
"He's a guy that sometimes you think of as a one-dimensional guy, and truthfully, he has been that. Up until Thursday night," Harbaugh said after Hamilton's performance in Tampa Bay.
"Thursday night he played the run very solidly and he played his assignments well. So, I feel like he played himself back into contention, and he's back in the mix."
