The Baltimore Ravens signed OLB Jason Babin to a one-year contract, general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome announced Wednesday. To make room for the move, Baltimore placed OLB Terrell Suggs (Achilles tendon) on Injured Reserve.
A two-time Pro Bowler (2010-11), the 11-year NFL veteran Babin has produced 371 total tackles (283 solo), 64.5 sacks and 14 forced fumbles in 146 games (94 starts).
Babin, 35, most recently played for the New York Jets in 2014, when he saw action in all 16 games (four starts). He recorded 35 tackles (14 solo), two sacks and 14 QB hits on the year.
The Houston Texans originally selected Babin in the first round (27th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft. The 6-3, 267-pounder has played for seven teams: Houston (2004-06), Seattle (2007-08), Kansas City (2008), Philadelphia (2009, 2011-12), Tennessee (2010), Jacksonville (2012-13) and the Jets (2014).
In 2011, Babin's 18 sacks ranked third in the NFL. He also posted 30 tackles and three forced fumbles during that standout season.
Babin's 64.5 career sacks currently rank 13th among active players. He owns 47 sacks and 12 forced fumbles since 2010, which is the year he first earned Pro Bowl honors.
