FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Baltimore Ravens signed 2008 fourth-round draft choice WR Marcus Smith to a three-year contract Friday afternoon, general manager Ozzie Newsome announced.

"Marcus Smith is an inside guy, primarily a slot receiver," Ravens director of college scouting Eric DeCosta stated last April. "He's got good size. He's a tough guy, blocks really well, catches the ball in traffic and is very physical. We felt like we wanted to bring a physical receiver and a bigger guy in here to compete for balls inside the numbers."

Smith, who was selected 106th overall out of New Mexico, earned first-team All-Mountain West Conference honors his senior season. Starting 25 of 49 games, he totaled 153 catches for 2,073 yards and 13 touchdowns during his career. Smith also served as a kickoff return specialist at New Mexico, compiling 1,353 yards on 68 returns in four seasons. The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder finished his career with 3,749 all-purpose yards.
