Ray Lewis could return to the football field soon, but this time as a coach.

Lewis has emerged as a head coach candidate for Florida Atlantic University, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The school fired its head coach, Tom Herman, on Monday.

Lewis spent his entire 17-year career in Baltimore, winning two Super Bowls, including Super Bowl XXXV MVP, as the heartbeat of the iconic Ravens defense. He was not only a ferocious player, but also an incredibly smart and inspirational one.

The Hall of Fame linebacker doesn't have any coaching experience, but as former Raven Deion Sanders is showing at the University of Colorado, players want to play for all-time greats.

FAU is less than 200 miles from Lewis' hometown of Bartow, Fla., and is a little farther from Miami, where Lewis went to college.

FAU, in its second year in the American Athletic Conference, is 2-8 this season after going 4-8 last year. Ravens Running Backs Coach Willie Taggart was the head coach at FAU from 2020-22 before coming to Baltimore.

However, there have been some conflicting reports.
