Veteran defender Haloti Ngata has been fined by the NFL for unnecessary roughness during last week's game against the Washington Redskins, according to ProFootballTalk.
Ngata was fined $8,268 after he appeared to kick Washington offensive lineman Shawn Lauvao, who was on the ground after delivering a late hit to Ravens cornerback Dominique Franks.
Ngata told reporters after the game that he was trying to stand up for his teammate after the late hit by Lauvao.
"When I saw Lauvao do that, I kind of was just pissed that he was doing that and just nudged him," Ngata said. "Kind of a heat-of-the-moment thing. That was the only thing. I was just trying to protect my player.
"No disrespect to Shawn because we know each other. It was the heat of the moment, and [I] just was mad that he tried a late hit."
