The Ravens have a whopping 10 draft picks on their current roster. This week they could add even more.
The NFL Supplemental Draft begins Thursday at 1 p.m., and there are six players eligible to be selected.
The Ravens don't have much of a history of making supplemental choices. The last time was in 2007 when they used a fifth-round choice to grab tackle Jared Gaither.
Any team can make a "bid" to the league for a player, agreeing to give up the corresponding round's draft pick in the following NFL Draft. The highest bid gets the player. The bidding is carried out via email.
For example, last year, the Cleveland Browns made a second-round bid for wide receiver Josh Gordon. Thus, they did not have a second-round choice last April.
Players available in the supplemental draft are those who were eligible, but did not declare for draft entry and have lost their eligibility for the upcoming college season for other reasons, such as academics or disciplinary matters.
There has been at least one player taken in the supplemental draft each of the past four years, but some pundits believe this year may break the streak.
Here are the available players:
DE James Boyd, UNLVBoyd began his college career as an "athlete" at USC, meaning he played all over including at quarterback, tight end and defensive end. He transferred to junior college then to UNLV last season, where he settled at defensive end. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder made 21 tackles, including two sacks, and had seven passes defensed. He's got plenty of athleticism, but is still raw at the position.
DT Nate Holloway, UNLVHolloway is a 365-pound run stuffer who had 28 tackles in 25 games from 2010 to 2011. He had academic issues and left the school in June. Holloway has bounced around his entire football career, including playing in four high schools in three states.
DE Toby Jackson, Central FloridaJackson is a 6-foot-5, 257-pound defensive end who had 14 tackles in nine games during the 2011 season, but was academically ineligible in 2012.
WR DeWayne Peace, HoustonDespite missing three games, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Peace led Houston with 54 receptions for 603 yards and two touchdowns last year. He only played two seasons, and caught just 13 passes the year before. He was ruled academically ineligible and was removed from the team in June.
WR O.J. Ross, PurdueAnother productive receiver, Ross* *led the Boilermakers with 56 receptions for 464 yards in 10 games. At 5-foot-10, 188 pounds, Ross had troubles off the field. He was previously suspended for a bowl game due to academics, then was suspended indefinitely from the team for a violation of unspecified team rules in February.
DB Damond Smith, South AlabamaThe 5-foot-11, 181-pounder began his career at Western Michigan before transferring to South Alabama. He had a productive career in both places, and showed good instincts with fluid hips. He was suspended for violating team rules after getting into a fight with a teammate. The Green Bay Packers tried to sign him as an undrafted free agent only to learn he wasn't yet eligible.
