The Ravens have re-signed wide receiver Tandon Doss.
Baltimore was in need of a wide receiver and returner after starter Jacoby Jones went down with a sprained right knee in the regular-season opener in Denver. Jones will reportedly be out four to six weeks.
Doss was part of the Ravens' final roster cuts, and reportedly had a tryout with the Green Bay Packers, but was not signed.
The 2011 fourth-round pick was in a position to capture a spot as one of the Ravens' top three wideouts entering this season, but he was outplayed by rookies Marlon Brown and Aaron Mellette in training camp and the preseason.
Head Coach John Harbaugh still expressed confidence in Doss after the team released him on Aug. 31. Harbaugh said Doss had a "great" mini-camp and training camp, and pointed to his five-catch, 75-yard performance in the preseason finale.
"He definitely played well enough to make our team, but you take the 53 guys that fit the best," Harbaugh said. "Tandon Doss is going to play football in this league, guaranteed, and he's going to have a very good career. I've said that all along, and I still believe that to be true."
Doss has four career punt returns for a collective 53 yards. He has a career long of 40 yards. He has not made any career kickoff returns.
The Ravens waived linebacker Robert James, who they signed last week to add to special teams, to make room for Doss on the roster. James suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1.
