The Ravens placed nose tackle Terrence Cody on the active/physically unable to perform*(PUP) *list Friday afternoon.

Cody is still recovering from his offseason hip surgery, which left him sidelined during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp.

The Ravens re-signed Cody to a one-year deal this offseason in hopes that he can be the run-stuffing presence they envisioned when they drafted him in the second round in 2010.

After becoming a 16-game starter in 2011, Cody has started just four games since. He made 40 tackles over the past two seasons and was limited to 12 games last year.

Cody said his hip has been nagging him over the past three seasons, and was hopeful that he'd finally be totally healthy and ready to contribute more.

"This is like a fresh start right now," Cody said*at the end of minicamp. *"With the hip injury, I haven't been able to grow as much lately. Now that I'm about to be healthy, I can be able to do things more on the field, instead of just being there as a first- and second-down guy."
