The Caw: John Harbaugh's Botched Chest Bump

Ravens safety James Ihedigbo had made a great play, a flying interception on the Dolphins' second offensive drive.

Better yet, it was right on the Ravens sideline (actually a little too close because he was ruled out of bounds after a replay review).

It was an exciting play to say the least. So thrilling that Head Coach John Harbaugh wanted to get in on the celebration.

So as Ihedigbo popped up from the turf, Harbaugh lined him up for a leaping chest bump. Only except … oh no … don't look … he just whiffed.

Ihedigbo ran off to celebrate with his teammates, leaving Harbaugh leaping into the air by himself. It's like giving your boss the classic high-five fake out with the brush of the hair.

I cracked up when I saw it live in Miami, but wasn't quite sure how Harbaugh would react.

Turns out, Harbaugh was also laughing. He gave Ihedigbo a hard time about it at the game, then showed the video in the team's Monday morning meeting.

"I thought I had pretty good ups on it," Harbaugh told me with a grin today. "I think they were surprised by my vertical jump."

I had to get Ihedigbo's side of the story. How could you diss your coach like that?

"I was going to celebrate with my teammates like I'm supposed to and I didn't even see John," he said. "I told him I felt bad leaving him out to dry like that."

Of course, the usually stoic Ihedigbo also added that it was pretty hilarious.

Wide receiver Torrey Smith thought so too. He made sure his 236,854 Twitter followers saw the video too as he was up late watching it from home.

"I think it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my entire life," Smith said. "It was terrible, man. It just looked so un-athletic. Harbaugh, he's a guy that loves to celebrate with everyone."

Torrey gave Harbs props for taking it in stride.

"He knows we like to have fun around here," Smith said. "It's a credit to him. He can take a joke."
