Last year was "Embrace the grind."
This year it's "Ability is God-given, prowess is earned."
Ravens players had T-shirts with that slogan waiting for them when they arrived at minicamp, and have immediately tossed them on their backs.
Last year's slogan for the offseason was coined by guard Marshal Yanda. This year, players said Head Coach John Harbaugh came up with the slogan. Harbaugh didn't want the credit.
"It's always our creation around here," he said. "We are a team. We come up with these things together."
The Ravens have plenty of talent this year. They're younger and faster. Now Harbaugh is drilling into them the work ethic to develop their games.
Prowess, by definition, is "skill or expertise in an activity or field." Synonyms, according to my Google search, include valor, bravery, courage and heroism.
Those sure sound like Harbaugh words.
