He and fiancé, Chanel Williams, posted a YouTube video encouraging kids to study for the Maryland School Assessment.
The Maryland School Assessment (MSA) is a reading and math achievement test that meets the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. The test is given each year in early March in grades 3 through 8.
Smith and Williams encourage students to bring their pencil, get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, budget their test time, darken their bubbles and not go outside the lines, and re-read the directions if they don't understand the questions.
It's been a few years since I've taken the MSA, but all very solid advice.
Williams, a fourth-grade teacher, came up with the idea to motivate her students at Dogwood Elementary in Baltimore. Smith joked that he gave her two takes to get it done.
Seriously, is there a cuter couple out there? And bravo for the deed … and of course the singing.
They also shot a longer video incorporating messages from other Ravens players, including running back Ray Rice, wide receiver Jacoby Jones and cornerback Lardarius Webb.
"The time's finally here," Smith said. "You guys have been working hard all year for this moment. You guys are ready for it. I've been hearing great news, a lot of progress. Good luck!"
