The Ravens haven't had the volume of creative touchdown celebrations like the Philadelphia Eagles or Minnesota Vikings.
But Baltimore launched itself into the conversation for the best of the season with Sunday's tug-of-war between running back Alex Collins and his offensive linemen.
And for a better angle …
So where did the idea come from?
Turns out, it was the Irish-dancing Collins who originally came up with the tug-of-war concept, but right tackle Austin Howard tweaked it.
"Alex had mentioned something about doing 4-on-4 or 5-on-5 [tug-of-war] with the whole offense," Howard explained. "It was coming down to the wire and we figured we had to do something big. We hadn't set anything in stone.
"So literally right before that series or the series before, I said, 'Hey guys, I have an idea. Let's do Alex versus us five.' Now, if you watch the tape, you'll notice we're minus one [lineman]. I'm not going to name any names, but we had a choreography meeting on the sideline, had it all legit, and we were still minus one. Some guys …"
Howard won't throw him under the bus, but the missing party was left tackle Ronnie Stanley. Turns out, Howard is a leader in the Ravens' offensive celebrations department.
He “bowled” Stanley into the other offensive linemen after a Joe Flacco touchdown throw against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football. After Collins scored against the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football, he gave the ball to Howard for a big-man spike.
"I'm down for the cause, for sure," Howard said. "The thing is, Ravens football, we have a lot of fun. When you go out there and have fun, good things happen."
Only problem was when Collins scored a second touchdown against the Lions later in the fourth quarter, they didn't have anything planned, so Collins had to revert to the Irish dance.
"I'm good for one [idea] a game," Howard said with a laugh.
