HEAD COACH JOHN HARBAUGH
We saw a long line of guys carted or walking off the field, do you have updates on any of them? "Owen Wright has a broken foot. That's the one that I really have an update on for sure – we know that. Trayvon Mullen, I think dislocated his shoulder, so we'll see where that one is upon further evaluation. That's all I have [with] any kind of certainty."
What's your assessment on today's game, and what you were looking to get out of it as you point towards the regular season? "The bottom line is, we play the Chiefs in 12 days. So, that's our focus. We have to get ready for the game against the Chiefs, and that's what we're doing. We'll look at the tape and see if it tells us anything we didn't know about our guys, as far as who makes it [and] who's on the practice squad. There [are] going to be important evaluations; I think they're more individual evaluations than any kind of team evaluations at this point, and that's what we'll do. We have to get ready to play a game."
Prior to the tape, just first impressions or any more answers that you found along the offensive line as you're searching for your starters? "We're playing a couple of guys here and there. It's an individual type of an evaluation, so you have to look at it and see what those guys did per play."
Prior to his injury, how did you feel about C Nick Samac? He's been getting an increased role. "I don't know about the game. I'll just have to watch the tape about the game. I liked how he played coming into the game. He had a good week, week-and-a half. He practiced pretty well on Thursday, so we'll see how he looked in the game."
How did you feel about how CB Nate Wiggins did over the course of camp and in preseason? "I felt like [Nate Wiggins] did well. It seemed like he did well in the game. A couple of times, they threw his way, [and] he was there. [He] made a nice play; I believe it was a third-down situation, if I remember it right. He's had a heck of a camp. He's definitely everything we thought he was, and not that he can get better, because he can, and I'm sure he will, because he works at it. He's going to be counted on heavily this year for us."
Two young guys, S Beau Brade and S Sanoussi Kane seem to be flying around out there. Sanoussi Kane had a couple of big hits. What's your assessment on them on having gone through this point? "I think [Beau Brade and Sanoussi Kane have] shown flashes of physicality, both on defense and special teams. They've shown up here and there, pretty well today, even. [It's a] big-picture evaluation. Again, you have to see all of the plays to have a feel for that, but they did flash a few times."
Now that you're trending toward the game preparation, do you have any sort of feel that C Tyler Linderbaum and TE Mark Andrews will be ready for that game? "I think [Tyler Linderbaum and Mark Andrews] will be, yes."
OL DANIEL FAALELE
On where his comfort level at guard is right now: "I feel really comfortable right now. I just feel like going up against [Justin] Madubuike and 'Big Trav' [Travis Jones] and all of the defensive line that we have, I've been able to get the best practice. It's been good work, and I feel confident."
On his first reaction to playing guard and how that decision went: "For me, I was just excited for the opportunity. I just want to help the team win in any way I can and just do my job and play my part. The thing I'll always lean back on is [the] opportunity. I'm just trying to do my best at it and do my job."
On if he feels like guard is a better fit for him than tackle: "In some aspects, yes, guard is better for me. Just being bigger and being able to take up more space inside, it shuts down a lot of different moves that a D-lineman would have on someone smaller. I don't mind [playing either position]. I just want to play."
On when he felt comfortable with his role change: "I really felt comfortable in probably the second week of camp. I feel like I was really just able to settle in that week and get some really good reps."
On what he wants to emphasize as he prepares for the Chiefs in Week 1: "[I'll] really emphasize using my length, just pass [protect], getting to my spot, getting set and just working on the silent cadence with Tyler [Linderbaum] and [the other] centers and just getting more comfortable with that."
On how much his stamina has helped him compete for a starting spot and if he feels like he's in a good spot with that: "Yes, I feel like that's helped me play at a higher level for longer. Yes, that's just really helped me stand out and compete for the starting spot."
On where he feels like the O-line is at following today's game: "I feel like we have a lot more work to do. I also feel like we're in a good spot with all of the moving pieces. I feel like we've done a good job at adapting some new people, [and] new plays and everything."
On how much of a difference C Tyler Linderbaum makes on the Ravens' O-line: "[Tyler] Linderbaum is the tip of the spear for us. Having him there is just reassuring, knowing that he's always going to point us in the right direction and never steer us wrong. So, I'm excited to have him back, and it'll be fun getting to work with him again."
On T Ronnie Stanley's impact: "Well [Ronnie Stanley's] on the left side. But yes, just having his veteran leadership will be awesome."
On if he's excited to block for RB Derrick Henry: "No doubt, definitely. Yes, that just brings out the intensity and expectations that we have on the O-line, so it's definitely a good feeling."
QB JOSH JOHNSON
On the touchdown pass to WR Tylan Wallace: [It was] a great route by Tylan [Wallace]. [It was] a great route. The O-line protected well, and I just wanted to sit in there, let the defense kind of clear that opportunity to throw that route was there, and I just wanted give 'Ty' [Tylan Wallace] [the opportunity] to do what he does best. He had a similar throw last week, and he got tackled – he was upset, so he went for a touchdown this week. I was happy for him to go out there and do his thing. He has been having a great camp."
On what he thinks he brings to the Ravens: "Experience. I've played in a lot of different places, [and] I've learned a lot of different football. I've played in some meaningful games as well. I've been thrown into a lot of uncharacteristic situations, so nothing kind of surprises me when situations may come up, and I feel like I'm a pretty good football player [and] quarterback when it comes to just getting the job done and moving the ball down the field."
On being back in Green Bay and playing at Lambeau Field: "Lambeau [Field] is just history. It's football history. You just get that vibe when you walk into [Lambeau Field]. The whole town is just all about the football. The stadium just gives you a great football vibe. Me being a 1980's guy, I used to watch all of the Vince Lombardi frozen tundra NFL Films, so all of those things are circulating your brain when you walk in here. You kind of feel that energy. [It's a] great atmosphere."
On his mindset heading into Week 1 versus Kansas City: "It's a refocus. [Training] Camp is a grind. It's a lot of repetitive, getting on the same page, [and] playing with a lot of different guys. Now that we're heading into the regular season, everything is going to tighten down. The preparation is going to amp up, the competition is going to amp up, [and] everything is going to amp up another notch now. I'm looking forward to it, I'm excited, and [we] just have to refocus on getting ready for that game."
On working with QB Lamar Jackson every day: "It's awesome. I love it. [Lamar Jackson] is the guy. I think it's only a matter of time before he wins the Super Bowl. He goes out every day [and] plays like it's his last play. He does amazing things. He has the talent, but he's also a [heck] of a quarterback with how he sees the game and how he goes about his preparation and how much of a leader [he is]. When I'm not in [the game], [I'm] just sitting back and watching him do his thing."
On being a mentor for QBs Devin Leary and Emory Jones: "The quarterback position is an emotional roller coaster. [There are] highs and lows, but you just have to stay the course. You have to stay the course, and you have to continuously and consistently train your mind, body, soul and spirit on how to stay that course. Learn from the moments that sting the most, and the moments that you feel good about, you'll appreciate those, and you'll want to stack them and [I'm] just trying to be a sounding board for [Devin Leary and Emory Jones] to understand that."
QB DEVIN LEARY
On the most difficult thing about being a rookie, going through these reps and trying to make progress: "At the end of the day, just doing what I'm coached to do, making sure I fall back on my training – fall back on my rules. Putting the ball in jeopardy is not winning football, so that's something I need to improve [upon]. [I'll] watch the tape [and] learn from it, and [there is] little room for error playing at a level like this."
On what feedback the quarterbacks and his quarterbacks coach Tee Martin are giving him on the sideline: "Just attack the next play. Whatever happens, happens; build off of it, learn from it, and the only play that matters is the next play."
On the biggest adjustment to the NFL level that he wasn't expecting: "I just feel like your typical rookie growing pains – making sure that every day you're locked in in practice, whatever reps you do get, making sure you make the best of them, watching extra film, making sure you're asking as many questions as possible, and ultimately – like I said earlier – just doing what you're coached to do, operating [as] a quarterback at a high level [and] making sure you're doing your job the way it's supposed to be done."
On where the biggest strides he's taken: "I would just say [I] continue to learn the system, continue to develop from Lamar [Jackson and] Josh [Johnson]. Me and Emory [Jones] ask questions all the time in the meeting room. [Quarterbacks] coach Tee [Martin] does a great job. Coach 'Monk' [offensive coordinator Todd Monken] does a great job, so just continuing to build from a mental standpoint of always being one step ahead."
On how much QBs Lamar Jackson and Josh Johnson help him from a confidence and learning standpoint: "[Their help is] huge. I can't be more thankful for those guys. Every single day, just being able to sit in and listen, watch how they see the game – they have a ton of experience [and] a ton of success – and really for me, it's just [important] to be a sponge and absorb all of that and understand that I'm really blessed to be in this position [and] blessed to be able to learn behind both of those guys. Ultimately, [I'll] just continue to pick their brain, continue to be a young guy in an experienced room and take as much knowledge [of] this game of football as I can."
On if knowing QB Josh Johnson is the backup takes pressure off him and just lets him develop this year: "That's a good question. I think as a competitor, and especially as a quarterback, everyone wants to compete and everyone wants to do as best [as] they can for the team, but ultimately, Josh is a guy that plays at a really high level. [He's] done great as long as he's been in the NFL, and for me, being able to learn from him [and] being able to learn from Lamar [Jackson] is only going to help my career and [help me] get better and better, every single day and every single year."
ILB TRENTON SIMPSON
On how his comfort level with Week 1 right around the corner: "I feel like my confidence is continually growing. [I'm] blessed to have the opportunity to be able to play these preseason reps [and] practice against another team, [as well as] see different schemes. I'm excited. I've got a couple more days to keep grinding, keep getting better and just stacking days on top of days, and I'll be ready."
On his evaluation of the Ravens defense today: "There are some things we can clean up. We've definitely got some time to get it right before the Chiefs [in Week 1]. We've got to start cleaning it up, but I feel like [we just have to] continue to improve as a defense; everybody stay positive, and it's just one game. We've got another game – a big game [against] the Chiefs. Just continue to get ready [and] be prepared for that."
On what he's happy about from his preseason and training camp: "Just blessed. God has given me an opportunity to be healthy – that's all I can ask for; and just an opportunity. A healthy opportunity is all I can ever ask for, and I feel like I just took advantage of it. I'm just trying to learn every day, continue to get better, and I'm just excited to see what my work paid off come this season for sure."
On if he expected to play the majority of today's game: "Yes. I mean, I'm ready whenever. Whenever they call my number, and whatever my team needs, I'll go out there and perform. That's my mentality – I'm going to do what the Baltimore Ravens need, and I'm going to give my best every time my number is called; and I'm able to go out there and be healthy."
On what he's thought of CB Nate Wiggins in the preseason: "That dude [Nate Wiggins] – you saw him [against] the Eagles, seeing him fly around [with the] pass breakups. I'm excited to see what his rookie season [looks] like. He's a baller. He was doing that at Clemson, when I played with him, so I'm excited to see him grow; and I'm happy for him, and I'm excited to see him play against the Chiefs and this great rookie season he's going to have."
On how discouraging it is to see multiple players go down with injury in the game: "Those things you can't control. You just pray for the guys who got injured, pray everybody gets back healthy and just get ready to work when we get back when we touch ground in Baltimore on Monday. Just pray about it, pray those guys get healthy and [that] whatever they have is minor, and that's all you can do – control the controllable. So, I hope those guys the best and just continue to get ready for the Chiefs [in Week 1]."
On if the team is looking forward to putting training camp behind them: "Yes. I'm excited. You know, we put in some work. It's been some grinding days, but just to go out there and be able to play Week 1, I feel like we put the work in. Everybody, for the most part, is healthy, and I'm excited to see all this work pay off for sure."
