Trenton Simpson will have a bigger role in his second season, and apparently a new jersey number.
Simpson is switching to No. 23 after wearing No. 30 as a rookie, according to his Instagram account.
Simpson is expected to become the new starting inside linebacker next to Roquan Smith, replacing Patrick Queen, who signed with the Steelers in free agency.
Simpson indicated his number switch is to honor his mother, Dionna Ford, who wore No. 23 playing softball.
Other Ravens who have previously worn No. 23 include safety Tony Jefferson and running back Willis McGahee. Simpson wore No. 22 in college while playing for Clemson.
Veteran outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy also recently posted that he's changing to No. 53. Rookie first-round pick Nate Wiggins will wear No. 2.
