Tyrod Taylor Has Best Showing Of Preseason

Joe Flacco wasn't the only Ravens quarterback to put on a show Thursday night.

Second-year backup Tyrod Taylor played his best game of the preseason, as he handled most of the work during the third and fourth quarters in the Ravens' 48-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"That's the type of Tyrod that we've all seen in practice," Head Coach John Harbaugh said after the game. "It was good to see him take that to the game. He played well."

Taylor was effective throwing and running the ball, and he finished 7-of-9 passing with 139 yards and two touchdowns, and four carries for 24 yards and a touchdown. Taylor was elusive in the pocket, and used his quickness to give himself more time to find open receivers.

His one miscue came on an errant pass in the fourth quarter when he lofted a pass down the sidelines, which was picked off by defensive back Dwight Lowery and returned for a touchdown.

Taylor's preseason has been up and down, as he struggled throwing the ball in the Ravens' first two preseason contests. Taylor was a combined 16-of-39 passing for 129 yards and no touchdowns against Atlanta and Detroit.

He turned that around Thursday night, as the Ravens scored touchdowns on three of the four series that Taylor was in the game.

The former sixth-round pick has been competing with veteran free-agent signing Curtis Painter for the backup job throughout the offseason, and Taylor does not appear to have lost ground in the competition.

Painter was also sharp in his one series of work, completing all three of his passes, including a 33-yard touchdown to rookie Tommy Streeter.

With one preseason game left, Taylor looks to once again have the edge in the No. 2 quarterback job, and the big question for the Ravens is whether they will keep two or three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster.
