Canty Doubtful, Suggs Questionable
For the second straight week, the Ravens are going into the weekend with some uncertainty about the status of key members on the defensive front.
Outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (thigh) missed two days of practice this week and is officially listed as questionable on the injury report. Veteran defensive end Chris Canty (illness) did not practice all week and is listed as doubtful.
This is the second week in a row that Canty has missed the entire week of practice.
For a 10-year veteran like Canty, missing the week of practice doesn't necessarily rule him out for the weekend. Despite not practicing at all last week, he still played against the Panthers.
"The more experience a guy has, the less he needs to practice," Head Coach John Harbaugh said. "The younger a player is, the more he needs to practice."
If Canty is unable to play, then recently acquired defensive end Lawrence Guy will likely play in his place.
Guy was signed last week after getting cut by the Chargers, and he was inactive against Carolina. He does have playing experience, as the fourth-year veteran played in 10 games last season for the Chargers. He had nine tackles and three passes defensed last year.
If Suggs is out, then outside linebackers Pernell McPhee, Courtney Upshaw and Elvis Dumervil will likely see more snaps between them.
RB Pierce 'Fully Ready'
Running back Bernard Pierce is slated to get back on the field this week after being hindered by a thigh injury. Pierce was a full participant in practice all week and is listed as probable.
"Bernard has done a really good job. He's worked hard," Harbaugh said. "He's been in every rehab session and more. He's practiced well this week. I expect him to be fully ready to go, even more so than last week.
Pierce has not played the last two weeks. Pierce was active against Carolina, but the Ravens decided not to use him. Pierce's return gives the Ravens another option in a formidable backfield, as running backs Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro have had impressive games the last two weeks.
Monroe, Jernigan Both Doubtful
Left tackle Eugene Monroe (knee) and defensive lineman Timmy Jernigan (knee) are unlikely to play as they are both doubtful after missing the entire week of practice.
Monroe had knee surgery last week and Harbaugh said he will be sidelined for multiple weeks. Jernigan has been dealing with the knee issue since the Pittsburgh game, and he hasn't practiced or played since Week 2.
Undrafted rookie James Hurst will start again in place of Monroe.
The only other injury concern for the Ravens is to tight end Philip Supernaw (thigh), who first appeared on the injury report Friday as a limited participant. Cornerback Chykie Brown (neck) was a full participant in practice all week and is listed as probable.
Wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. and tight end Owen Daniels were both listed as probable after sitting out Thursday's practice for non-injury reasons.
A. Jones Ruled Out For Colts
The Ravens won't get a chance to face former teammate Arthur Jones.
The defensive lineman has officially been ruled out because of an ankle injury. The Colts also ruled out reserve guard Jack Mewhort (ankle).
Other than the injuries to Jones and Mewhort, the Colts are mostly healthy. They have eight players listed as probable, including wide receiver Reggie Wayne (non-injury related), running back Ahmad Bradshaw (NIR) and linebacker D'Qwell Jackson (NIR).
