Biography
DONALD D'ALESIO joined the Ravens as the defensive backs coach in 2025, spending the past five seasons coaching within the Kansas City Chiefs' defense (safeties, 2022-24, and defensive assistant, 2021). D'Alesio was a defensive analyst at LSU (2020) after starting his coaching career at his alma mater, Youngstown State (2015-19), assisting the Penguins' defense in various roles.
- During his time with the Chiefs, D'Alesio contributed to defenses that won three consecutive conference championships (2022-24) and two Super Bowls (2022-23).
- In 2023, D'Alesio assisted a Chiefs' defense that surrendered its fewest passing yards per game (176.5) since 1992 (158.6).
- At Youngstown State in 2016, D'Alesio guided the Penguins to an FCS-best and school-record 49 sacks…Coached DEs Avery Moss (NYG) and Derek Rivers (NE), who were both selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.
2021-24: (with Kansas City) Won two Super Bowls and three AFC titles during his Chiefs tenure. 2024: Kansas City finished with the NFL's fourth-best scoring defense (19.2 ppg) and eighth-best red zone defense (51.9%)…Guided S Bryan Cook to a career-high 77 tackles (54 solo) and 2 INTs. 2023: Kansas City ranked No. 2 in scoring (17.3 ppg), No. 4 in passing defense (176.5 ypg) and No. 10 in third-down efficiency (37.1%)…S Justin Reid's career-high 95 tackles (74 solo) led all Chiefs defenders…KC defeated San Francisco, 25-22, in Super Bowl LVIII to clinch its second-straight title. 2022: Helped guide S Juan Thornhill to a career-best 9 PD in his first season as safeties coach…The Chiefs defeated the Eagles, 38-35, in Super Bowl LVII. 2021: As a defensive assistant, D'Alesio worked closely with the DBs…Helped guide S Tyrann Mathieu to his third Pro Bowl appearance.
2020: (with LSU) Served as a defensive analyst in his lone season with the Tigers.
2015-19 (with Youngstown State) 2019: The Penguins ranked Top 15 nationally in both passing defense (168.4 ypg, eighth) and sacks (36, 15th)…DE Justus Reed recorded 13 sacks and 19 TFL, en route to first-team All-MVFC honors. 2018: In his first year as co-defensive coordinator, Youngstown State ranked Top 5 in the MVFC in total defense (360.8 ypg, fourth), passing defense (195.3 ypg, fourth) and rushing defense (165.5 ypg, fifth)…DT Savon Smith recorded 39 tackles, including 10.5 TFL and 5 sacks, en route to second-team All-MVFC honors. 2017: Under D'Alesio's tutelage, Reed was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer team. 2016: Guided the Penguins to a school-record and FCS-best 49 sacks as the DL coach…DE Derek Rivers finished with the second-most sacks nationally (15), earning second-team All-Amercian and first-team All-MVFC honors…DE Avery Moss joined Rivers as first-team All-MVFC, making them just the second D-line duo in school history to both earn first-team All-Conference selections in the same season…Both players went on to be selected in the 2017 NFL Draft (Moss – NYG; Rivers – NE). 2015: In his first coaching experience, joined his alma mater as a defensive quality control coach, working primarily with the defensive line…Helped Rivers earn first-team All-MVFC honors.
COLLEGE: Appeared in 48 games (44 starts) over five seasons (2010-14) at Youngstown State, totaling 274 tackles (148 solo), 4 TFL, 4 INTs, 21 PD, 5 FFs and 3 FRs…Graduated with a degree in business in 2014.
PERSONAL: A three-year starting DB at Cardinal Mooney (OH) HS, D'Alesio helped lead the Cardinals to a perfect 15-0 record and Division III State Championship as a senior, earning second-team Northeast Inland District honors.
