Biography
MARK DeLEONEwas hired as the Ravens inside linebackers coach in 2024. He joins Baltimore's staff with 17 years of coaching experience, most recently serving as a defensive analyst at the University of Kansas for the past two seasons (2022-23). Before assisting on the Jayhawks' staff, DeLeone spent 10 seasons (2012-21) coaching in the NFL, working with the Detroit Lions (2021), Chicago Bears (2019-20), Kansas City Chiefs (2013-18) and New York Jets (2012) in numerous capacities, including leading inside linebackers for four seasons (2018-21). He joined the NFL ranks after five seasons (2007-11) coaching at the collegiate level.   
- During his six seasons (2013-18) with the Chiefs, helped the team earn three AFC West division titles and five trips to the postseason. 
- Served as Roquan Smith's ILB coach in Chicago for two seasons (2019-20).   
- Worked with two 2011 first-round NFL Draft picks – OL Mike Pouncey (Florida) and DE Adrian Clayborn (Iowa) – during his time in the collegiate coaching ranks. 
- In two seasons (2007-08) as a defensive graduate assistant for Iowa, worked with 14 All-Big Ten selections and 22 future NFL players. 
- Throughout his career, DeLeone has also been heavily involved with recruiting and has worked at several different football camps as a guest coach. 
2022-23: (with University of Kansas) 2023:Helped the Jayhawks secure the program's first bowl game victory in 15 years, defeating UNLV in the 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl...Finished the season 9-4 overall, 5-4 in conference play – including a victory over sixth-ranked Oklahoma, the team's first ranked win over a Top 10 team at home since 1984 – and 23rd in the AP *poll, the program's first time being ranked in the final *AP *poll since the 2007 season. 2022:In his first season with Kansas, helped DL Lonnie Phelps earn *AP second-team All-Big 12 honors. 
2021: (with Detroit)Coached ILBs for one season for the Lions, whose defense was improved in various categories, including a decrease in total yards allowed per game by 40 points from the previous season (419.8)...Also helped LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin become the fourth player in franchise history, and second LB, to produce at least 70 tackles, four passes defensed, four tackles for loss and 2 forced fumbles in a single season.  
2019-20: (with Chicago)Led the Chicago Bears inside linebacker room for two seasons, which featured Ravens All-Pro ILB Roquan Smith, who produced triple-digit tackles in both years under DeLeone's tutelage. 2020:Coached Smith to earn second-team All-Pro honors after finishing as the league's only defender to record at least 100 tackles (139) and double-digit tackles for loss (18) with multiple sacks (four) and multiple interceptions (two)...His career-high 18 tackles for loss ranked second in the NFL that season, trailing only OLB T.J. Watt's 23. 2019:DeLeone's unit anchored a defense that ranked Top 10 in points allowed (18.6 - fourth), total yards per game (324.1 - eighth), rush yards per game (102.0 - ninth) and pass yards per game (221.9 - ninth). 
2013-18: (with Kansas City)Since joining the team in 2013, DeLeone worked with LB Derrick Johnson, helping him break the all-time franchise tackle record in 2015, compiling 1,262 total tackles (993 solo). 2018:In his final season with the Chiefs and first as a main position coach, DeLeone helped the club earned its third AFC West title in six years...He coached LB Anthony Hitchens to a career- and team-high 135 tackles (81 solo) in his first season in Kansas City. 2017: Worked with second-year LB Reggie Ragland as earned more game action, starting 10 of the 12 games he played in, totaling 44 tackles (31 solo) and 4 tackles for loss. 2016:Helped Derrick Johnson earn his fourth-career Pro Bowl nod in 2016. 2015:Served as assistant LBs coach, guiding Tamba Hali, Justin Houston and Derrick Johnson to Pro Bowl berths, marking the third time in franchise history the Chiefs had three linebackers selected to the Pro Bowl in a single season. 2014:Guided Hali to a franchise-record and NFL-high 22 sacks en route to being named the team's MVP. 2013:In his first season with the Chiefs, DeLeone helped his three linebackers (Hali, Houston and Johnson) to the Pro Bowl.  
2012: (with New York Jets) Served as a defensive assistant for the Jets in his first NFL coaching role, helping the Jets' defensive unit rank eighth in yards per game (323.4) and second in pass yards per game (189.8)...Worked with CB Antonio Cromartie and S LaRon Landry who both earned Pro Bowl honors in 2012. 
2011: (with Temple University)Served as an offensive graduate assistant with Temple, helping the team finish 9-4, 5-3 in MAC play in the Owls' last season as a member of the MAC...The Owls defeated Wyoming 37-15 in the New Mexico Bowl that season, marking the program's first bowl victory since 1979. 
2010: (with University of Florida)Worked with wide receivers in the spring before helping the offensive line and tight ends in the fall...The Gators saw seven players selected to the All-SEC team en route to their Outback Bowl victory over Penn State. 
2009: (with University of New Hampshire)Served as the director of football operations/assistant offensive line, helping the Wildcats to a 10-3 record en route to the Colonial Athletic Association North Championship and a quarterfinal appearance in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. 
2007-08: (with University of Iowa) 2008:Worked with Iowa's defensive line as a graduate assistant en route to a victory in the 2009 Outback Bowl. 2007:Began his coaching career working with the Hawkeye's linebackers.  
COLLEGE:While a student at the University of Iowa, DeLeone served as a defensive assistant for head coach Kirk Ferentz from 2007-08. Earned his degree in liberal arts and sciences from Iowa in 2009. 
PERSONAL: The Syracuse native prepped at Fayetteville-Manlius (Manlius, NY) HS....His late father, George, was a beloved NFL and collegiate coach for nearly 50 years...To honor his father's legacy and impact on the game of football, DeLeone connected with his old players, colleagues and coaches of his father, creating a 2-hour-and-20-minute video to present to his father...His godfather, Paul Pasqualoni, is a long-time colleague of George's – the two were coaches on the same coaching staffs at three stops (Syracuse, Miami Dolphins and Connecticut) for over 20 years...He and his wife, Molly, have three sons, Rafael, Salvatore and Lorenzo.
