Biography
MATT ROBINSON enters his fourth season with the Ravens and first as assistant defensive line/outside linebackers coach. Robinson most recently served as a defensive quality control coach in 2023, working primarily with the defensive front after focusing on the defensive backs in 2022. He originally joined the Ravens in 2021 as a defensive coaching fellow. Prior to his Baltimore arrival, Robinson coached for four seasons (2017-20) at the collegiate level with Maryland (2019-20) and Connecticut (2017-18).
- In 2023, Baltimore's defensive front contributed to the unit's league-leading and franchise-record-tying 60 sacks. DT Justin Madubuike posted career bests in tackles (56), sacks (13), TFL (12), QBHs (33) and FF (2), en route to earning his first Pro Bowl nod and second-team All-Pro honors…He also led all NFL DTs in sacks and tied an NFL single-season record for most consecutive games (11) with at least a half-sack.
- Baltimore boasted a Top 5 defense in multiple categories in 2022, including the NFL's No. 3 unit in points allowed per game (18.5)...The Ravens were also third against the run (92.1) and in defensive red zone TD% (46.4), while finishing fourth on third down (34.9%).
- In 2021, the Ravens ranked No. 1 in rush defense (84.5 ypg) and No. 3 in third-down defense (34.8%).
2021-23: (with Baltimore) 2023: Served as the defensive quality control coach, primarily working with the defensive front...Baltimore's defense became the first unit in NFL history to lead the league in points allowed (16.5 ppg), sacks (60, tying 2006 for a franchise record) and takeaways (31, tied with NYG)...Sixteen Ravens defenders registered at least 1 sack and contributed to the unit's league-leading and franchise-record-tying 60 QB takedowns...Only Detroit (18) had more defenders notch at least 1 sack...Additionally, only Baltimore (DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney, DT Justin Madubuike and OLB Kyle Van Noy) and Miami featured three 9+ sack defenders. 2022: Worked primarily with the defensive backs, who contributed to the NFL's No. 3 unit in points allowed per game (18.5) and defensive red zone TD percentage (46.4)...CB Marlon Humphrey made his third-career Pro Bowl after finishing as one of two DBs (L'Jarius Sneed) to record at least 3 INTs and 3 sacks...S Kyle Hamilton earned PFWA All-Rookie honors after joining L'Jarius Sneed and Derwin James as one of three DBs to post at least 5 QBHs and 5 PD. 2021: Joined the Ravens as a coaching fellow, assisting with the outside linebackers...The Ravens' unit ranked as the No. 1 rush defense (84.5 ypg) and No. 3 third-down defense (34.8%)...Coached OLB Odafe Oweh to a team-high 3 FFs and 2 FRs, who joined Terrell Suggs (2003) as the only Ravens in team history to produce at least 5 sacks, multiple FFs and multiple FRs in their rookie campaign.
2019-20: (with University of Maryland) 2020: Served as the defensive quality control coach...Maryland's defense averaged 2.8 sacks per game, the second-best mark in the Big Ten...DL Mosiah Nasili-Kite led the Big Ten and ranked 23rd nationally in with 0.80 sacks per game (four in just five games), en route to being named honorable mention All-Big Ten. 2019: Initially joined his alma mater as a graduate assistant...Helped coach LB Keandre Jones post 15 TFL (ranking 27th in the nation and seventh in the Big Ten) and team highs in sacks (7), FFs (3) and QBHs (3).
2017-18: (with University of Connecticut) 2018: Served as a defensive graduate assistant for a second-consecutive season. 2017: First entered the coaching ranks as a defensive graduate assistant for the Huskies.
COLLEGE: Appeared in 39 games over five seasons (2010-14) for the Terrapins, seeing time at both defensive back and linebacker, posting 198 tackles (127 solo), 14.5 TFL, a half-sack, 1 INT, 13 PD, 4 FFs and 2 FRs...Named Consensus All-State selection in 2019...Earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in supply chain management from Maryland...Signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 but suffered a hamstring injury during training camp.
PERSONAL: Attended Atholton (Columbia, MD) HS, where he played wide receiver and linebacker...Earned Baltimore Sun first-team All-Met honors as a receiver, Washington Post first-team All-Met honors as a linebacker and Consensus All-State selection in Maryland in 2009...Played in the 2009 Crab Bowl, featuring All-Stars from Baltimore and Washington D.C....He and his wife, Dallas, met at Maryland where he played football, and she was on the cheerleading squad...In 2023, Dallas served as the Co-Head Coach of Maryland Cheerleading.
