Sterling Lucas is in his third year with the Ravens after being promoted to a defensive quality control coach in January 2018, with responsibilities that include finding tips/tendencies on opponent offenses, self-scouting the defense and working with the linebackers. Prior to his promotion, Lucas served as an administrative assistant for the defense in 2017. He originally joined Baltimore as a strength and conditioning assistant in 2016 after spending two years (2014-15) as a defensive graduate assistant at North Carolina State, where he also worked as a strength and conditioning graduate assistant beginning in 2013.
2016-17: (with Baltimore) 2017: Served as an administrative assistant for the defense, helping Baltimore post NFL bests in INTs (22), takeaways (34) and shutouts (3 – most in a season since the 2003 Patriots)...The Ravens allowed just 18.9 points per game, which ranked sixth best in the league...Behind Pro Bowlers LB C.J. Mosley, OLB Terrell Suggs and S Eric Weddle, Baltimore's "D" ranked 12th overall (325.1 ypg), also producing the NFL's 10th-best pass defense (213.8 ypg). 2016: Joined the Ravens as a strength and conditioning assistant, but also helped the defensive coaching staff on certain projects.
2013-15: (with North Carolina State) 2014-15: Spent two full seasons working as a defensive graduate assistant, with a primary focus on coaching the linebackers and nickelbacks. (Lucas worked into the spring of 2016 before joining the Ravens). 2013-14: Worked as a graduate assistant in the strength and conditioning department, also spending time assisting the football coaching staff.
College: Graduated from NC State in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in communications...Later earned a master's in sport management in 2014...Played linebacker for the Wolfpack from 2008-12, although he red-shirted the 2011 season after suffering a knee injury in preseason practice...Served as a team captain his senior season...Recorded 167 tackles, 4 sacks and 1 INT during his collegiate career.Â
Personal: Was a team captain and named team MVP during his senior season at Orangeburg Wilkinson (Orangeburg, SC) HS...Earned All-State, All-Region and All-Area honors that year...Married Brittany Gabriel in July 2017.
