Derrick Henry Says He Wants to Retire As a Raven

dh

Derrick Henry emphatically showed that he has plenty left in the tank in his first season in Baltimore, and the five-time Pro Bowl running back said he wants to finish his career in purple.

"I want to retire a Raven," Henry told The Athletic's Diane Russini on the red carpet at NFL Honors last night.

Henry, who signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Ravens last offseason after spending eight years with the Tennessee Titans, is arguably the best free agent signing in franchise history. He rushed for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaged a career-best 5.9 yards per carry.

General Manager Eric DeCosta did not rule out signing Henry, who turned 31 last month, to a contract extension when asked about it at the Ravens' season-ending press conference.

"We'll look at that," DeCosta said. "I'm just so grateful that Derrick chose us last year. He came in and … I can honestly just say his attitude and the way that he played was amazing to watch. His relationship with his teammates, his humility as a player, his work ethic – I can't wait to see him next year."

Henry, who finished fourth in NFL Offensive Player of the Year voting, spoke with our Garrett Downing on the red carpet about his first year as a Raven and his mindset entering the next season.

"It's a season to be celebrated, but when you look at the big picture, we came up short," Henry said. "So that all just plays into my head to next season, so that's what I look forward to. Just work as hard as I can this offseason to get ready for next season and put a better season together so we can finish what we want."
