History

The Ravens have defeated Tampa Bay five straight times and hold a 5-2 edge in the all-time series.

Their last meeting was in 2022, when Baltimore won a 27-22 decision in Tampa Bay. Lamar Jackson got the best of Tom Brady, who was playing his final NFL season and last game against the Ravens. Jackson (27 of 38, 238 yards, two touchdowns) led three long touchdown drives in the second half and closed the game by completing his final eight passes to secure the win.

Stakes

Both teams want to stay atop their division. Heading into Week 7, the Pittsburgh Steelers are tied with Baltimore atop the AFC North, while the Buccaneers are tied with the Atlanta Falcons for first place in the NFC South. Jackson has an opportunity to improve his near-perfect career record against the NFC as a starter (22-1). Mark Andrews needs one touchdown to break a tie with Todd Heap (41 each) for the most in franchise history.

Key Storylines

Which Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback will lift his team to victory?

Baker Mayfield won the Heisman in 2017, one year after Jackson, and both are playing superb football. Jackson is having arguably his best season, adding increased command of the offense at the line of scrimmage to his immense physical gifts. Mayfield remains a fiery leader who entered Week 7 leading the league with 15 touchdown passes, but his play has become more precise, and he enters this game completing a career-high 70.9% of his passes. The Ravens have a 6-3 career record against Mayfield, who spent four seasons on the Cleveland Browns, and any meeting between these two quarterbacks has the potential to produce offensive fireworks.

Can Baltimore's secondary keep Chris Godwin and Mike Evans in check?

Godwin is an excellent receiver who entered Week 7 leading the league in receptions (43) and yards after catch (328). Attacking the middle of the field has been Mayfield's bread and butter, and that's an area where Baltimore's defense has been vulnerable. It's hard to be more consistent than the 6-foot-5 Evans, who has produced 10 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start his career. Evans uses his size, strength, and athleticism to make contested catches and the Ravens' corners will be challenged to win one-on-one battles. Baltimore entered Week 7 ranked 31st in pass defense (275.7 yards per game), just one yard better than the Jacksonville Jaguars. If Mayfield gets hot throwing to Godwin and Evans, the Buccaneers will be difficult to stop.

Do the Buccaneers have an answer for Derrick Henry?

Henry leads the league in rushing yards (704) and rushing touchdowns (eight) and is averaging 143.5 yards per game during Baltimore's four-game winning streak. His ability to finish drives in the red zone and to close out games with long runs has been the heartbeat of Baltimore's league-leading rushing attack. Baltimore has yet to lose when Henry rushes for at least 90 yards. The Buccaneers entered Week 7 ranked 13th in rushing defense, but Henry is the best back they've faced all year.

Players to Watch

CB Marlon Humphrey

The Ravens may use both Humphrey and Kyle Hamilton to defend Godwin. Humphrey is a battler whose physicality can frustrate wide receivers, and his late-game interception against the Bengals in Week 5 was one of Baltimore's biggest plays of the season. Humphrey looks forward to defending elite players and he should have a busy day with Godwin and Evans on the field.

C Tyler Linderbaum

Linderbaum is the glue to Baltimore's offensive line, and Buccaneers 6-foot-4, 347-pound nose tackle Vita Vea is one of the NFL's most imposing players. Tampa Bay may decide to stack the box hoping to shut down Baltimore's running game, and they may also blitz often to pressure Jackson. Linderbaum's blocking ability and leadership to help his offensive linemates recognize blitz packages will be a key to making Baltimore's offense work.

WR Rashod Bateman

With eight catches for 129 yards and a touchdown over the last two games, Bateman is gaining huge separation with his route running, making his targets from Jackson count. Bateman is thrilled to be healthy, and his play is clearly trending up. He would love to get the best of this matchup against his former college teammate, Buccaneers All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield Jr.
