Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh accepted the NFL’s Salute To Service Award Saturday night in New York City, and then he quickly re-packed his bags for another trip out of town.
Harbaugh left the United States Monday on a trip to visit American troops in the Middle East with U.S. General Ray Odierno. The visit includes stops in Turkey and Afghanistan.
"We're going to get with troops," Harbaugh said during an interview over the weekend with CBS. "We're going to spend time with troops, and shake hands and talk to them a little bit and just be with them. I can't wait."
Harbaugh is known for his support of the military, and he has developed a relationship with Odierno over the years. Odierno presented Harbaugh with one of five Outstanding Civilian Service Awards from the U.S. Army in 2012, and has also been a guest at a Ravens' practice.
This isn't Harbaugh's first trip overseas, as he also participated in the NFL-USO Coaches Tour in 2009. During that trip, Harbaugh visited with soldiers in Baghdad. Harbaugh has also supported military members domestically by routinely inviting Wounded Warriors to practice and by instituting Military Appreciation Day during an annual training camp practice.
