Patrick Mahomes has become a TV spokesman for all sorts of products, but Isaiah Likely isn't buying his shoes pitch.
Likely's toe took center stage of the NFL's opening game, as the replay showing that he barely landed out of bounds, sealing the Ravens' 27-20 loss in Kansas City in another memorable Ravens-Chiefs showdown.
After the game, Mahomes joked that Likely should wear white cleats next time so his shoes would blend in with the end zone paint. Likely heard the comment and chuckled in the locker room Thursday about it.
"That's obviously news coming from a vet," Likely said. "I'll look into it, but I like my cleats."
Likely had a monster game with nine catches for 111 yards on 12 targets, including a 49-yard touchdown in which he badly juked a Chiefs safety at the goal line with a stutter step.
Likely's actual takeaway from the ending to a game that literally came down to inches was a reminder of the importance of every detail. He called his came "incomplete."
"Everything I did good, it wasn't enough," Likely said. "It's harping on the little things in that game. Every rep, every little thing in that game matters. It's to take every play as serious as could be the one that cost us.
"It's taking that next millisecond to make sure I'm in bounds, to be able to celebrate and have that moment to be able to go for two."
