Marc Alegi, head coach of the C. Milton Wright (Bel Air, Md.) varsity football team, has been named Ravens High School Coach of the Week. Presented by Toyota, this is the 16th year of the Ravens' award program.
Securing a 19-14 win over previously undefeated Fallston last Friday, the Mustangs improved to 5-1 in Alegi's first year as head coach. Down 14-0 early in the first quarter, C. Milton Wright's defense tightened, and the offense responded with three touchdown passes from QB Omar Walker. "A lot of times when a team quickly goes up 14-0, the players are shell-shocked," explained Alegi. "But our kids responded immediately, saying, 'We've got this Coach.' The perseverance and character of the kids just shined. They never gave up, and they haven't given up at any point this year."
The Mustangs' five victories this season surpass the team's combined win total from the past two years (2010-11), setting up a potential winning campaign for the first time since 2000.
C. Milton Wright hosts Joppatowne on Friday, Oct. 12, for its first home game of 2012. In their meeting last season, the Mustangs defeated the Mariners 20-0.
Each week during the season, the Ravens will honor a high school coach who has made a significant impact on his student-athletes. Each winner will be present at the Ravens-Broncos home game on Dec. 16 for the naming of the Ravens High School Coach of the Year.
Each weekly recipient receives:
- A $2,000 donation to the school's football program
- An award certificate signed by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh
- A specially-designed Coach of the Week hat
