The Baltimore Ravens, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association* *and the American Heart Association (AHA) will kick off the in-school Play 60 Challenge this Tuesday (10/13) as part of the national NFL Play 60 campaign that is designed to promote physical fitness and healthy living among an increasingly inactive generation of children.
To launch the 2009 Play 60 Challenge, the Ravens will challenge local students to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day through an incentive-based system. In-classroom tracking materials and individual student guides will be distributed for students to record their physical activity during the six-week program. By reaching specified benchmarks, students will be awarded prizes such as water bottles, yoga mats, stopwatches, foam footballs, basketball hoops and jump ropes. One lucky student from each school will be invited to the Ravens vs. Steelers game (11/29) and take part in a pregame ceremony. In addition, the top three performers from each of the participating schools will attend a prize luncheon at ESPN Zone in the spring of 2010.
Ravens players will host three kickoff events with students at Afya Charter School (Baltimore City), Cockeysville Middle School (Cockeysville, Md.) and Mayfield Woods Middle School (Elkridge, Md.). Additionally, middle schools in the Carroll County school district will also receive materials to participate in the Play 60 Challenge this upcoming spring.
