News & Notes: Ravens-Packers Joint Practice Was 'Excellent'

Over the years, the Ravens have had some good joint practices and ones that devolved into work that wasn't so productive.

Put this year's solo joint practice against the Packers in the good column, as Head Coach John Harbaugh came away pleased with the work put in regardless of who won the unofficially tally of plays.

"I thought the practice was excellent. It's what you hope for in a practice like this," Harbaugh said. "It's what we expected against a team coached by Matt LeFleur.

"Both teams were keeping it between the lines, between the whistles. It was a physical practice. They're a very good team. I thought our guys did well, acquitted themselves well, both sides of the ball. I thought we played good football."

Harbaugh said he was particularly pleased with getting reps against the Packers' up-tempo situations and trying to handle the problems caused by that.

"Real grateful for that work" he said.

There was a healthy amount of 11-on-11 action during the practice, including red-zone and two-minute drills that pitted first teams versus first teams.

Considering Harbaugh's stance of not playing his starters in preseason games, it was the closest thing to "game" action that Lamar Jackson and most of the Ravens' starters will get before the Sept. 5 opener in Kansas City.

"It was a great opportunity, especially when a lot of guys aren't playing in the preseason," tight end Isaiah Likely said. "Going against another defense, seeing how the league is shaping their defenses, especially going against an NFC opponent, it definitely was great work today."

The Ravens and Packers will face off Saturday at 1 p.m. ET in the preseason finale for both teams, which will again feature Baltimore's backups and players fighting for roster spots.

Kyle Hamilton Banged Up, But 'Not Serious'

Safety Kyle Hamilton had another practice scare, as the All-Pro safety went down after a play versus Packers wide receiver Christian Watson.

Hamilton later returned to the field but did not participate in any more practice.

"It's not a serious injury," Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh Happy With 90% of Offensive Line Play

It's not going to be perfect with the Ravens' rebuilt offensive line, which is replacing three starters this offseason, but it has to be good enough.

One Packers reporter tweeted that Jackson was "running for his life" at practice. Jackson took a sack to begin a first-team two-minute drive. There were also positive reports, including rookie right tackle Roger Rosengarten winning a rep versus veteran Packers pass rusher Rashan Gary.

Harbaugh, who watched the Ravens' offense versus Packers defense throughout practice, said he thought the Ravens' offensive line "looked good."

"[The Packers] were bringing bull rushes and games and physical games in there, and our guys were stout passing that stuff off really well," Harbaugh said.

"You're not going to be perfect, and Lamar definitely holds the ball. Lamar was not looking to run. He was looking to stay in there and throw. I think he probably would run more in a game than he did today, and that's a problem for the defense too. … I was standing there. I can't wait to see the tape, but I was happy with how firm with how firm the pocket was 90% of the time."
