Five Free Agents Who Could Fit Ravens: Safety
Tyrann Mathieu would be a splashy addition, but other there are other talented safeties on the market.

Tyrann Mathieu, Kansas City Chiefs
Age: 29 2021 stats: 16 games, 76 tackles, 3 interceptions, 6 passes defensed
Mathieu has always been an elite playmaker with a nose for the football. He's not afraid to take risks and he's smart enough to make them pay off. His versatility would allow new Ravens Defensive Coordinator Mike Macdonald to utilize the savvy veteran's talents in a variety of ways. Mathieu should draw plenty of interest on the open market and may simply take the best offer. However, joining Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters in Baltimore's secondary and moving from one AFC contender to another is a scenario that could intrigue Mathieu if the price were right.

Marcus Williams, New Orleans Saints
Age: 25 2021 stats: 16 games, 74 tackles, 2 interceptions, 8 passes defensed
With 15 interceptions and 38 pass breakups over the last five seasons, Williams is the type of safety the Ravens covet, one who can roam centerfield and improve their pass defense. He has been durable over his five-year career, playing in 76 of 81 possible games. He's also a sound run defender when he moves into the box with 320 career tackles. The Saints placed the franchise tag on Williams in 2021 because they didn't want to lose him. Now that he's free, there will be strong interest in this proven young player who looks like a nice fit for any defense.

Landon Collins, Washington Commanders
Age: 28 2021 stats: 13 games, 81 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 passes defensed
Collins will reportedly be a salary-cap casualty after the trade that brought quarterback Carson Wentz to Washington. Collins was most effective last season in a hybrid linebacker/safety role in Washington's defense, which played to his strength as a hard-hitting run stopper. With 10 career sacks, Collins can also be used effectively in blitz packages. He was a three-time Pro Bowl safety with the Giants before coming to Washington, and Collins plays with physicality and a competitive attitude that would fit Baltimore's defense.

Marcus Maye, New York Jets
Age: 29 2021 stats: 6 games, 46 tackles, no interceptions, 2 passes defensed
Maye's 2021 season was cut short due a season-ending Achilles injury suffered in November. That could reduce some of the interest he draws during free agency, making him more affordable and perhaps willing to sign a short-term deal to prove he is back to 100 percent. During his last full season in 2020, Maye had a career year with 88 tackles, 11 passes defensed and two interceptions. He's a safety with range and experience who could potentially step in and improve Baltimore's pass defense.

Justin Reid, Texans
Age: 25 2021 stats: 13 games, 66 tackles, 2 interceptions, 4 passes defensed
Reid's strong suit is pass defense, covering ground in the secondary and preventing big plays. He's also not shy about roaming into the box to make tackles as a solid run defender. Houston's recent struggles have kept Reid under the radar nationally, but he's been a solid player and a bargain as a third-round draft pick in 2018. Reid, who publicly endorsed Houston's decision to hire Lovie Smith as head coach, has not ruled out re-signing with the Texans, but he might welcome a change of scenery and a starting role in Baltimore.
