These Ravens Had Breakout Years in 2021
Here are some players who took a big step forward in their careers during the Ravens' 2021 season.

WR/RS Devin Duvernay
Duvernay had never returned a punt before entering the NFL. He became the Ravens' full-time returner in his second season and ended it in the Pro Bowl and as a first-team All-Pro. Duvernay averaged an NFL-high 13.8 yards per punt return, displaying toughness and top-end speed. Duvernay also took another step forward on offense, making 33 catches for 272 yards and scoring his first two touchdowns. Considering how new Duvernay is to returning, he should have a brighter future.

QB Tyler Huntley
Huntley was thrust into the playoffs as a rookie. In his second season and first as Lamar Jackson's full-time backup, Huntley was again forced into action for five starts. He only won one of them (his first career start against Chicago), but opened eyes by going toe-to-toe with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers with four touchdowns and keeping the Ravens close in his other starts against the Browns, Rams and Steelers. Huntley showed he's a valuable backup with the potential for more.

OL Patrick Mekari
Mekari had seen plenty of action in his first two seasons in which he made 13 starts at center. But he really proved his versatility this season when stepping in at right tackle for 12 starts. At one point, Head Coach John Harbaugh said Mekari was playing right tackle "as well as you could expect it to be played." Mekari grinded through multiple injuries and was rewarded with a three-year contract extension.

TE Mark Andrews
I know what you're thinking. How could a guy who has already been to the Pro Bowl be a "breakout" player? Andrews' 2021 season was just that good. He was already considered one of the best at his position, but Andrews took it to another level in 2021 with a record-setting season that finished third all-time for receiving yards by a tight end (1,361).

OLB Odafe Oweh
Oweh was a highly touted first-round rookie with the tools that made for big dreams. But not many people expected him to have such an instant impact. Oweh got his first career sack in his first game and was the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after helping to seal a comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He finished his rookie year with five sacks, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

CB Anthony Averett
Averett was a reserve cornerback for his first three years in the league, but Defensive Coordinator Wink Martindale went into the season saying he was the team's third-best corner. He was thrust into the starting lineup after Marcus Peters' season-ending injury, then became the top corner when Marlon Humphrey was lost for the year. Averett was one of the NFL's most targeted cornerbacks, which means he gave up some plays, but Averett also hung in well for the most part and proved he can be a starter.

LS Nick Moore
A breakout year for a long snapper? Why not? Moore took over for longtime Raven Morgan Cox and had a fantastic year. There were zero botched snaps and Justin Tucker had the third-most accurate season of his career, only missing two attempts. On top of that, Moore was also a menace on punt coverages with four tackles. Cox never had more than two. In his first season as a full-time snapper, after starting his professional sports career in baseball, Moore was very impressive.
