What We Learned from Ravens-Panthers Joint Practices
Two joint practices with the Carolina Panthers gave the Ravens valuable work as part of their preparation for the regular season.

Ronnie Stanley Is Getting Healthier
The All-Pro left tackle got his most extensive work on Thursday since returning from ankle surgery, and he looked good doing it. In his first action against another team, Panthers pass rushers who tried to beat Stanley were met with a road block. After months of hard work in rehab, Stanley's health is trending upward as Week 1 approaches.

Left Guard Competition Still Looks Undecided
Rookie Ben Cleveland did not practice Thursday and missed all of last week with a concussion. Ben Powers, Tyre Phillips and Cleveland look like they'll all in the running to claim the starting job. Powers had two solid days of practice against the Panthers, but this remains a competition to watch.

Kevin Zeitler Likes His New Linemates
Signed to be the starting right guard during the offseason, Zeitler benefitted from practicing against the Panthers after missing time in training camp with a foot injury. Zeitler said the Ravens' offensive line is the biggest group he's ever played with, and he built some chemistry with his new mates this week.

Lamar Jackson Is Slinging It
The Ravens' offense had its struggles during Thursday's session, but it wasn't because Jackson was off target. Wednesday was a particularly strong day for Jackson, who threw the ball accurately with consistency. You can't tell Jackson missed the first 10 days of training camp by watching him work.

James Proche II Kept Stacking Good Days
Proche is the Ravens wide receiver having the best August. He's been healthy and consistent, and he was Jackson's go-to wideout during Wednesday's practice. Five top receivers (Marquise Brown, Sammy Watkins, Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay and Miles Boykin) sat out Thursday, but Proche was on the field once again. The next step for Proche is to take his production into games, but after a quiet rookie season, he's making noise in Year 2.

J.K. Dobbins Is Chasing Perfection
Nobody is harder on Dobbins than Dobbins. Despite looking good as both a runner and receiver this month, Dobbins angrily spiked his helmet Wednesday after his first fumble of the month. Dobbins wants to be great, not just good, and his passion showed competing against the Panthers.

No. 3 Running Back Job May Not Be Settled
Justice Hill missed the joint practices with an ankle injury, giving more reps to Ty'Son Williams and Nate McCrary, who took advantage. Williams leveled a Panthers blitzer on Wednesday and ran with authority, while McCrary showed speed getting to the outside. Both backs are trending upward.

Ravens' Cornerback Depth Was Impressive
With Marlon Humphrey and Jimmy Smith missing joint practices, Marcus Peters and Anthony Averett stuck to Panthers receivers like glue on the outside. Tavon Young played physically at nickel and Chris Westry made plays. The Ravens are deep and talented at one of the NFL's most critical positions.

Patrick Queen Benefited From Shadowing Christian McCaffrey
Defending one of the NFL's top all-purpose backs tested Ravens second-year linebacker Queen. McCaffrey made plays, but Queen recognized routes quickly and showed improvement as a pass defender. He won't face much tougher assignments and can put the experience in his memory bank.

Calais Campbell Looks More Than Ready
Campbell said he's ready for Week 1 and it looked that way. The veteran defensive lineman was vocal and active against the Panthers, solid while defending the run and making Panthers quarterbacks uncomfortable when rushing. It's August, but Campbell can smell September.

Derek Wolfe Remains Resilient
After being shaken up Wednesday, Wolfe was back on the field Thursday as a stout presence on the defensive line. Wolfe held the defensive line together during periods last year when Campbell and Brandon Williams were both out. Wolfe's toughness and dependability showed again this week.

Tyler Huntley Was Tested
Tipped passes led to two of Huntley's three interceptions on Thursday, which was his toughest day of his summer. But he showed resiliency by continuing to make plays with his arm and legs. Handling adversity is part of growth for a young quarterback, and Huntley is benefitting from all the reps he's getting.

Only Cramps Stopped Mark Andrews
Andrews required medical attention Thursday, suffering from severe cramps at the end of practice. Before that happened, he put another impressive two days of practice on film, getting open consistently against the Panthers on a variety of routes. If he stays healthy, Andrews looks poised for his best season.

Pat Ricard Remains a Physical Presence
When things got physical during joint practices, it became Ricard's kind of party. After missing time last week, Ricard was back as a versatile blocker whose presence as a Pro Bowl fullback is part of what makes Baltimore's running attack unique and difficult to handle.

Bradley Bozeman Was Solid
Despite the heat, humidity and physicality, Bozeman had no issues with snapping and continued to settle in with his transition from guard to center. The Ravens will need that kind of steadiness from Bozeman this season and he looks ready to provide it.
