The 2016 Ravens open their regular season at M&T Bank Stadium when they host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. The Bills, of course, are coached by Rex Ryan, the former Baltimore defensive line coach (1999-2004) and defensive coordinator (2005-08). For the second year in a row, the Ravens will play just one home game in September.
For the fourth-consecutive season, the Ravens do not have a home Monday night game. (Baltimore has played 10 of its last 11 Monday nighters on the road. The last Monday night game at M&T Bank Stadium was a 44-13 victory over the Bengals on Sept. 10, 2012.)
The Ravens do play two primetime games, their fewest since 2006 when the team also played just twice under the lights in front of national audiences. The Ravens host the Browns on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 8:25 p.m. and travel to New England to play the Patriots on Monday, Dec. 12.
(This marks the first time since 2006 that a Baltimore/Pittsburgh game was not scheduled for primetime.)
For the first time in team history, the Ravens' first eight games will all start on Sundays at 1 p.m. Following the opener, Baltimore plays at Cleveland (Sept. 18) and at Jacksonville (Sept. 25) before coming home for back-to-back games against Oakland (Oct. 2) and Washington (Oct. 9).
The Ravens then make consecutive trips to MetLife Stadium with games against the Giants and Jets on Oct. 16 and 23. This is the first time since 1997 that Baltimore has played twice in the same season at the Meadowlands.
The Ravens will spend both Christmas and New Year's Day on the road in the last two regular season games. Baltimore is at Pittsburgh on Christmas for what is now a 4:30 p.m. contest. On the first day of 2017, the Ravens play at Cincinnati. With road battles versus the Patriots, Steelers and Bengals, the Ravens face three 2015 playoff teams in the final four weeks. Philadelphia comes to Baltimore on Dec. 18.
(The Ravens also played on Christmas and New Year's Day in 2005 when they hosted Minnesota and traveled to Cleveland on those respective days.)
The team's bye weekend will come Oct. 30 after the first seven games. Prior to the bye, the Ravens have the Meadowlands' games, and after a week off, host Pittsburgh (Nov. 6) before the "short-week" game against the Browns.
Baltimore will play its first-ever regular season game at AT&T Stadium when the Ravens meet the Cowboys on Nov. 20. After that road trip, the Ravens host the Bengals (Nov. 27) and the Dolphins (Dec. 4) in back-to-back games at M&T Bank Stadium.
Other Schedule Notes:
- In 2016, the Ravens will play six games against 2015 playoff teams: Cincinnati (twice), Pittsburgh (twice), New England and Washington.
- Baltimore's two primetime games are its fewest since 2006.
- Including 2016, 10 of the Ravens' last 11 Monday Night Football games have been scheduled on the road. Baltimore's last home Monday Night Football game was on Sept. 10, 2012 vs. Cincinnati.
- This season marks the first time since 2006 that Baltimore and Pittsburgh are not scheduled to play at least one nationally-televised game.
- Baltimore will travel to the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ twice this season to play both the New York Jets and New York Giants for the first time since the 1997 season.
- Philadelphia will play in Baltimore for the first time since 2008. Washington will also make its first regular season trip up I-95 to M&T Bank Stadium since 2008, which is also the last time the Ravens traveled to play the New York Giants.
- The Ravens will make their first regular season trip to Dallas since they played in the final game ever at Texas Stadium on Dec. 20, 2008.
- Miami will play in Baltimore for the first time since 2010, with each of the last three games in the series taking place in South Florida.
- Baltimore seeks its first-ever regular season win at New England, where the Ravens have not been scheduled since 2010. (The Ravens are 2-2 in postseason contests at Gillette Stadium.)
Ravens Team Notes:
- In 2015, Baltimore had an NFL-high (tied, Chi.) seven games decided by three points or fewer and an NFL-record 14 games decided by eight points or fewer (tied, 1994, NYG).Â
- The Ravens are one of five teams (GB, NE, Cin. & Ind.) to make the playoffs six times in the past eight seasons (John Harbaugh era). Baltimore has earned 10 postseason berths since 2000.
- In each of their past six postseason appearances, the Ravens have won at least one playoff game, advancing to at least the Divisional Round each time.Â
- The Ravens own a league-high 10 playoff wins since Harbaugh's first season in 2008 and have advanced to three AFC Championship games.
- Under John Harbaugh, the Ravens have posted at least 10 wins in five of his eight seasons at the helm, with Baltimore owning the NFL's fourth-most total victories (87, including playoffs) since his 2008 arrival (NE is first with 104 wins).
- Under Harbaugh (2008-15), the Ravens are 48-16 at M&T Bank Stadium, ranking as the NFL's third-best home mark during the eight-year span.
