Veteran nickel cornerback Arthur Maulet has been activated to the 53-man roster from injured reserve after missing the first seven games (knee/hamstring).
Maulet returned to practice Oct. 2 and the 21-day window for him to rejoin the roster was due to expire this week. He was a full participant in Saturday's practice before the Ravens defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. Maulet will have an entire week of practice to prepare for a possible return to action in Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns.
Maulet's return comes at an opportune time after cornerback Marlon Humphrey's knee injury Monday night. Humphrey missed the second half after but had a significant impact on the game before leaving, making two interceptions in a game for the first time in his career. Humphrey has a career-high four interceptions this season and can play both outside and in the slot. Head Coach John Harbaugh did not have an update on Humphrey after Monday's game, but he said Humphrey was in "good spirits" and was walking around the locker room. Regardless of Humphrey's status, Maulet's return as a tenacious nickel defender strengthens Baltimore's secondary depth.
Maulet has been out since suffering a knee injury in training camp in early August, which required arthroscopic surgery. He had a very strong start in training camp and was re-signed this offseason to continue his work as a hard-nosed defender at nickel. He had 37 tackles, two sacks, and one interception last season.
In a corresponding roster move, inside linebacker Josh Ross was waived. Ross had seen action in all seven games this season, making five tackles while playing 138 snaps exclusively on special teams.
