Cincinnati Bengals: Alex Cappa Released in Cap Savings Move
The Cincinnati Bengals announced they have released starting right guard Alex Cappa, who signed a lucrative deal before the 2022 season.
It's a move that reportedly saves them $8 million under this year's salary cap.
Cappa, 30, started all but one game for the Bengals, but he suffered an ankle injury at the end of his first season with the team and his “production slipped” in the years following, according to ESPN's Ben Baby.
Cincinnati also parted ways with veteran defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins last week, freeing up $9.6 million in salary cap space. They could also be moving on from veteran slot cornerback Mike Hilton.
The Bengals are trying to clear cap space to re-ink three of their biggest stars – wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
Cleveland Browns: 'Strong Chance' Deshaun Watson Won't Play for Browns Again
Deshaun Watson is rehabbing again after rupturing his Achilles tendon again, which could sideline him for the entire 2025 season.
The buzz at the Combine, per ESPN's Dan Graziano, is that there's a "strong chance that Watson has played his final game as a Brown."
Watson is still owed $92 million over the next two years, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, and Cleveland will reportedly explore cost-efficient veteran quarterbacks such as Daniel Jones, Carson Wentz, or perhaps Kirk Cousins.
However, Graziano writes that the "overwhelming belief" is that the Browns will stick at No. 2 in the NFL Draft and select one of the top quarterbacks – Miami's Cam Ward or Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Justin Fields Has 'Edge' Over Russell Wilson
The Steelers didn't land Matthew Stafford, so the conversation about who starts under center next season in Pittsburgh has returned back to Russell Wilson vs. Justin Fields.
Both are pending free agents, but Fowler's sense from the Combine is that Fields "has an edge."
"There is sentiment for Fields in the building, and both sides would be open to a return," Fowler wrote. "The Steelers have at least another week to crystallize those plans, and they certainly haven't ruled out Wilson at this point."
Fowler is hearing that Fields could also be of interest to the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, however.
