The Ravens have agreed in principle on a trade to acquire wide receiver Diontae Johnson from the Carolina Panthers, pending the passing of a physical.
According to multiple reports, Baltimore will send a fifth-round pick in 2025 to Carolina, while the Ravens will receive Carolina's sixth-round pick next year. The Panthers are taking on some of his contract and Baltimore will only owe him about $625K for the rest of the season, per The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec.
Johnson will join a wide receiver room that includes Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor in Baltimore's passing attack led by Lamar Jackson. Johnson also has experience as a returner and could be used on special teams as well.
The Ravens lead the league in total offense and rushing and their passing attack ranks fifth overall. Adding Johnson to an offense that also includes other playmakers such as tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely and running backs Derrick Henry and Justice Hill will give the Ravens even more firepower for the stretch drive.
Johnson, who is a free agent after this season, had 30 catches for 357 yards and three touchdowns in seven games with the Panthers.
He had dramatically more production with Andy Dalton under center compared to Bryce Young and will now have Jackson throwing to him. Johnson had eight catches for 122 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Raiders and seven grabs for 83 yards and another score a week later versus the Bengals.
Johnson spent his first five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he caught 391 passes for 4,363 yards and 25 touchdowns. The 28-year-old Johnson had his best season in 2021 with 107 catches for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns.
