The Ravens are hosting a Countdown to Kickoff Barbeque at M&T Bank Stadium tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009. The event replaces the annual Countdown to Kickoff Luncheon, held previously the first week of the regular season.
The kickoff luncheon has been transformed into an end of the summer barbeque, which features Ravens cheerleaders and a gameday atmosphere. Guests will experience the traditional Ravens player introduction gauntlet, complete with flame towers, CO
jet helmets and a smoke curtain.
Proceeds from the Countdown to Kickoff Barbeque benefit the Ravens' charitable arm, the Ravens All Community Team Foundation. The foundation is committed to improving, encouraging and enabling the healthy development of youth in the Baltimore area, as well as other parts of the state of Maryland. The foundation focuses on programs that help youth, and in some cases their families, with various needs, including housing, hunger, education, athletics and mentoring.
Recent foundation projects include the renovation of the football field at Mergenthaler Vocational Technical (Mervo) High School (2008) and playground builds at Collington Square School (2007) and the Child Development Center at Good Samaritan Hospital (2009).
