The Baltimore Ravens are hosting a football clinic for the annual Worldwide Day of Play (WWDP) to encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyles among youth this Tuesday (9/21). To complement the NFL's celebration of the 2010 Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15 – 10/15), the clinic will be held for 150 predominantly Hispanic children, ages 5-11, at Patterson Park's Utz Field in East Baltimore. Several Ravens players, including WR Justin Harper, LB Jameel McClain and FB Le'Ron McClain, will be on hand to demonstrate the fundamentals of football.
All participants in the WWDP football clinic were pre-registered by Education Based Latino Outreach (EBLO) and Centro de la Comunidad (Centro), two organizations focused on serving the Hispanic population in Baltimore and its surrounding areas. With the assistance of Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks and the Friends of Patterson Park organization, the Ravens secured Patterson Park as the event's location due to its proximity to not only EBLO and Centro, but also to a large population of the community they serve.
Established as a day focused completely on active play, WWDP aligns with Play 60: The NFL Movement for an Active Generation, a campaign aimed at getting children active for at least 60 minutes a day. In addition, representatives from the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association will be on hand to distribute information on the health benefits of milk and regular physical activity as part of their Fuel Up to Play 60 partnership with the NFL.
The event will include football instruction by local coaches and Ravens players, festive music, appearances by Ravens cheerleaders and mascot Poe. Each participant will also receive a t-shirt, football and healthy snack pack.
