RAVENS COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT
The Baltimore Ravens have elevated Matt Weiss to the position of running backs coach, head coach John Harbaugh announced Friday.
"Matt's wide-ranging knowledge of the game will serve as a tremendous asset to our running backs group," Harbaugh stated. "He is a thorough, bright and creative coach who will help our offense attain the high standard we've set out to achieve."
Weiss, 35, has spent the past 10 seasons on Baltimore's coaching staff, most recently serving in the role of football strategy coordinator while also helping Bobby Engram coach the wide receivers. As part of his football strategy duties, Weiss was responsible for leading the coaching staff's analytics department, advising Harbaugh on game management and scripting the team's situational football practice periods.
From 2016-17, Weiss worked with the quarterbacks as an offensive assistant. Prior to joining the offense, he coached on defense in a variety of roles, including cornerbacks (2015), assistant linebackers (2014) and defensive quality control (2012-14).
Weiss originally joined the Ravens in 2009, serving three seasons as the head coach's assistant. Four years prior to that, he coached at Stanford as a defensive/special teams assistant (2008) and as a graduate assistant (2005-07).
Weiss played collegiately at Vanderbilt (2001-04), where he earned a degree in economics. He later obtained a master's degree in liberal arts from Stanford (2008).
Weiss replaces Thomas Hammock, who coached Baltimore's running backs from 2014-18 and was recently hired as the head coach at Northern Illinois.
